Is this a baby mantis?

A couple days ago I was aquascapping my tank when this little worm/shrimp popped out and swam to the surface. I just happened to have a small cup next to the tank so I simply scooped him out.

I've got 4 somewhat decent shots of him and was hoping if someone can ID him.

He has two big black eyes, two big front legs, and his tail kinda forks off into two fan/paddles.

I'm dying to know what this is.

Thanks,

OK...I'm pretty sure it's a Mantis Shrimp.

I took a fondue stick to move some of the LR rubble that I keep in his container when he came out to inspect. I put the metal stick right up to his face and sure enough he popped that bad boy. It was loud and made me jump back.

I feel like such a dork! I'm a grown man, in my boxer shorts, sticking a fondue poker into a container with a little shrimp, and jumping back from said container when it attacks .

What a hobby!

woah, almost every time someone gets on and asks if they have a baby mantis, you just know that they have caught an amphipod... however this one actually does look like a mantis... you gonna try to keep him?

I've thought about keeping him but kinda would like to trade him for some frags...since my tank is bare right now.

If anyone wants to trade shoot me a pm or an email.

Chris
