Is this a healthy RBTA

Hello, I am looking to get a BTA for my Maroon and found this one near my house for sale. It seems a little bleached out? or is this normal for a rose? how can I tell if it is an unhealthy regular BTA versus the rose when I see it in person?

Is this a fair price?

How many watts worth of high output T5's should I put over it in a 55 and where in the water column. I have been in saltwater for years but this may be the first BTA, my maroon is healthy in my other tank and I will be taking the water, sand and rocks from that tank. Do I really need to cycle the new tank? Thanks in advance.

You can get 4 x 39watt T5 and it will be fine. Yes your are correct its bleached somewhat. Not 100%. Make sure the foot is a purple color and not white nor hint of yellow. Less stress the better for you having a good chance on it making it.
How long has your setup running for?
Also good rule is make sure the BTA is 3 times bigger than the clown.
I sell mine for $40.00 It has a green base with pink bubbles. Its in the mid stage of splitting atm.

Back to the lights now mid level would be ideal. It will move till it finds a spot of its liking. With mid flow you should be good.
With the bleached part its loss of Zooxanthellae.

Thanks for the fast feedback. my current tank has been set up for over two years but most of the inhabitants go back with me 5 years. I quaritined and then added this clown just last week, she was fat and happy from the fish store, eating well all through quarintine and withing minutes of me adding him into my big tank, 500 gallons. she eat fine fine the first couple days then found a corner to lay in and has not left that area since, or eaten. no other fish go over to her an pick on her and I never saw anyone harrase her, based on theory of toughness she should be the top fish which is why she got added last. So my solution is to set the QT back up and take the water, sand and rock out of the big tank, I just want to make sure and get her a good anemone.

price isnt bad for a 6" nem...but that would be for a healthy full coloured one IMHO...

make sure his mouth is nice and tight, and also make sure it has a good feed response...(place the food near the outer 3rd of the tentacles, it shoudd grab and retract it to its mouth almost instantly...)

if it is inflating and eating and not showing any major signs of stress, then i guess you could chance it...the colour will come back fairly quick under a good set of T5's...

as mentioned it will find it's favorite spot in your tank and pretty much kill anything on it's way there...

Will a BTA be effected by aptasia? I don't know why I thought of that, but you said pretty much kill anything.

It might not be that washed out. It looks like the picture was taken under Moonlights. everything has a blue tint.

Not that I am an expert but it looks good to me. It is bublled some, looks like it is about to split, and is attached to a rock that comes with it. I would buy it. The owner can tell you all you need to know about that particular BT which is another plus. Good Luck.

I have had them split and look light colored like that. After a couple of weeks they get there red color back.

to me that is the ol' chicken and the egg...did it expel its zooxanthelae to split or did it split because it expelled it?

to me they expel because they are stressed and usually split for the same reason...

there are several varieties of this animal out there that readily split at this size but all i have seen do so with far more healthy colour...the tentacles should never be clear like that ...i dont care what lighting the pic is taken under...that thing looks pretty clear to me..

I would not buy it, it is unhealthy and that price for a bleached rbta is insane. I just sold one about that size but very healthy for 1/2 that price, keep looking. Could take months to nurse it back to health, just my opinion.

Well I ended up passing on it, I found a nice healthy one at the LFS for $40. thanks for all the help.
