Is this a NPS gorg?

Mostly I just want to know if it's photosynthetic or not. Thanks for any help!

Do you mean are the branches smooth when the polyps are retracted?

It's not "bumpy", if that's what you mean...

it is possible that it is a question of a Rumphella, but, also it can be:
Isis
Euplexaura
Paraplexaura

Well that sucks; with the brown/tan color I was hoping for photosynthetic :)

I'm going to say Photosynthetic. I think you are OK. I don't have my books here at work but I'm pretty sure. It still likes to be fed though.;)

Hello slapshot,

the gorgonias Paraplexaura or Euplexaura are azoox, nevertheless if they were Isis or Rumphella I give him the whole credit of being zooxanthellate.

While I don't feed specific coral foods, I think I feed enough fish food (too many fish :o ) that it helps a little. I have a seafan (G. ventalina), purple ribbon (Pterogoria Sp), and an unidentified large purple one that are all doing well and growing over the years...

Hmm, not sure I have any close enough to ID it. I'll take some tonight.

Isis
Euplexaura
Paraplexaura

Euplexaura- according to my book, is uncommon, but not rare. Plus it says it grows on a single plane. More like a sea fan.
Paraplexaura- again, uncommon and usually much more richly colored, again, according to my book.

Isis was my second guess. Think when it gets bigger, it will be easier to tell. Either way, as stated above, Isis and Rumphella are photosynthetic.

I'm saying Rumphella. Too thin to be an Isis. You will be fine, grows like a weed. Love to see pictures of your other gorgonia.

Just wanted to update. The gorg is doing very well, which leads me to assume that it is definitely photosynthetic :)

beautiful. I have the same kind in my tank. Good grower. Every once in a while (once a month or so) I use a pippette and squirt some baby brine in its direction and you can definitely see a feeding response. It grows fine with just the t5 lights I have also.
