Is this a problem?

I have lost about 7 large turbos in the last month. I have not added any LR and all corals have been treated. I have seen numerous "brown spiral discs" that have came out of the turbos and simply lay in the sand. All waters are testing out pretty good. Nothing that stands out. In addition, my wife told me she has seen these little things that are occasionally on the glass or snail shells. She said that she has seen them about a month ago and I hadn't added anything for months before than. Everything since has been treated when going in. She never sees more than a couple at most. Here are some pictures (I know they suck) and I don't think they're related to the turbos but wanted to get everyones thoughts.

Sorry about the small bits of junk on the glass but it's at the top and hard to get the magnet up there :D

Can't tell anything by the photos Justin. I would have to GUESS that whatever you're seeing is not a problem.

Gracias sir. I didn't think what I was seeing was worrisome but I was more worried about what was going on with the turbos. Not exactly cheap.

Happy thanksgiving greg. Just hanging out with some heat here :D

Enjoy the heat Justin!

Something to remember about turbo snail is that they are temperate water animals and as such don't live forever in tropical temps.

Have a good Thanksgiving!

I thought that was the margaritas which I thought were different? I've only had them a couple months. Is that typical?

The pictures look like Flat worms.

The snail in the picture is a Cerith.

The only type of snail you are losing are turbos ?

Do you have any other snails that "looks" like a turbo but is slightly different.

There are snails that look like turbos but are predatory upon them.

More info mang.

I was thinking it was not a big deal but if anything that it would be would be a flatworm due to transparency based on other pics but so little has been added and it's very very very small and she's only seen maybe 20 in the last few months and she looks closely. That cerith you see is only about 1/4"-1/2" so you can get an idea of how small this thing is.

All my turbos look the same. What is the disc they lose?

I'm lot losing any other types that are noticeable to what is outside the norm. (astreas flipped over)

How should I proceed? How can I confirm?

BTW- Did you get that monitor?

The disc is an opalith(sp?) aka their barn door. What they use to seal themselves up. You never see it because they are always open.

Flatworms and any other thing that can spawn from live rock will at some point. It can be 1 year or 15 years, we know little about the stasis abilities of marine organisms.

Just assume any turbo over the size of a golf ball is at near life's end. Take them back and trade in for small young ones :)

No I did not get any monitor. If you left it where I think you may have left it I haven't been there since June. No one has come forth and said they had it either.

So, if I see the disc laying in the sand, that's bad?

As far as the flatworms, how should I proceed

Gotcha on the snails

I just gave it to paul a few weeks ago. He said he doesn't see you all that often but does sometimes and will get it to you.

The disc means the snail it belonged to is dead.
Depending how your parents prepared you about the fact of life and death will determine if that's a bad thing or not.

The worms.
You could use FWE and kill them, but you don't know if they are the killers or not. I say leave them because they will not likely live indefinitely and be a persistent problem or a problem at all.
