Is this a tyree pnk watermelon?

could be, i have seen them fade out like that because of not enough light. They like more light to keep the pink color

This guy said he keeps his under 250 watt MH, not sure where the pic came from. My frag is under 150 watt, about 12" away, so that should get it to a pinker coloration if its a tyree pink? I will post a pic of my frag tonight. I know sometimes frags can lack the mother colony coloration for a while, but I wanted SOME pink in the chalice. Thanks for the response.

Many types of chalices will look different under varying tank conditions. I have a dinner plate size watermelon chalice I've grown from a 1" frag that's gone through countless color phases depending on where I've had it located throughout the years. In my experience, the pinkish coloration in the middle shows more under higher light conditions. In lower light conditions the green-blue rim really stands out.

I thought tyree pink held its color better though, which is why it was desireable. But it sounds like its impossible to tell.

That may be the case, but that doesn't mean it still won't vary somewhat depending on conditions. The only way to know for sure is to put a regular watermelon in the tank next to it and see if they look different from one another after a few months.
