Is this what it looks like when your sps get alk burns?

This used to be a blue tip green slimer. Now it's a dead tip green slimmer.

I have been battling this problem ever since I put up my new bigger tank. I keep screwing with the tank to trying to solve my sps problems. I've tried adding flow. Taking away flow. Changing to different bulbs. Bought a bigger skimmer. Bought a bigger calcium reactor. Bought a sulfur denitrator (which I've screwed up now). And I have removed awesome fish that I thought could be nipping at the corals.

Today I have done some research on sps dieing at the tips and have now learned about dkh can burn the tips. My dkh has been moving around do to not having a big enough calcium reactor to buying a bigger reactor. Now I have a controller to control the co2 in the reactor. Last night when I checked my dkh I was at 8. I used to think that was to low and would add buffer. From what I have read today from all the guys who have the most beautiful tanks, they aim there tanks for 8dkh.

Now I just need to fix the sulfur denitrator that I screwed up, so my nitrates go back to zero.

Ya, sounds to me like you are messing with your Alk too much causing it to be unstable and the sps are not liking it. A stable dkh of 8 is perfectly fine. Even a stable 7 is ok, I personally wouldn't go that low (dkh-7) becaues if the alkalinity dipped down a little and goes to 6, thats not good.

I found to more you mess with tank the more issues. If you have to ajust make sure you do it slowly.A chalice will react to low DKH before most Acros.

Looks like alk burn just add a small amount a day and regulate it with weekly water changes
