Is This Bad?

i have this stuff that appears to be spreading in my aquarium. As you can see from the pictures it is a dark red color (much darker than coralline). Is this something I should be worried about or is it just dark colored coralline?

looks like red coralline algae, or some kind of red matt algae, i have it al over the rocks, it is hard and difficult to get of rock so i just leave it on, IME i wont hurt anything, good luck

I'm pretty sure it's a kind of coralline algae-- it comes in all kinds of colors other than purple. The red stuff grows in my tank and I like it.

if it can come off easily its red slime (cyano) if its really hard and won't come off with a quick scrub its a type of coralline.

I agree with everyone else;)

If you cannot rub it off with your finger, it is likely coralline. In my tanks, the red seems to get thick and encrusting at a quicker rate than the pink. Not sure if this is the norm or not;)

thanks for the input. i will try and see if i can rub it off tommorrow, but hopefully I wont be able to. i guess i just need to stop being paranoid.

dont scrub it off. i have the same stuff. it is red coralline algae. i think it looks good and adds color and more of a natural look to your tank. i have 3 colors of coralline, red, purple and green. i love the way it looks, even though it is just starting to spread.
