Hello Anthony, is this a coraline algae? Its color doesn't look nice, is it bad?

Does coraline algae considered as "algae"?

That actually looks like another form of macro algae. It's a some times slow growing plate like algae. It isn't bad on many acounts. If given enough nutrition it may grow more rapid but it'll be one of you last algaes to consider a nusience.
As far as what I can tell from your picture. Hope i helped I know I'm not Mr. Calfo

I'd need a closer pic to be sure, but let me suggest you scan the archives, galleries and the google image tool (the link above the regular search field on their index page) for the term "Lobophora"

This is a common alga, can be a nuisance if unchecked. Urchins will control it often.

Oh, thanks Anthony and you guys. :)

I managed found a look-alike match through the search.

Brown Wafer Algae (Lobophora variegata)

As regards your comment on "can be a nuisance", is that it will overrun other coraline algae and corals, grow like pest?

I may consider an urchin, but have think about its impact onto other coraline algae and live stock.
Just read that one of the reefer have a bad experience with anemone wasted due to urchin, found marks of holes on its body.

Anthony, what type of urchin would you recommend if this was getting out of control? Any other way to rid the tank without using an urchin? I have a 75 gallon mixed with mostly acropora. For the last 3 months this algae has been slowly taking over my LR.

Thanks for all the answers Anthony!

I'd love to know what kind of urchin would eat it as well - I have an urchin already but it doesn't seem to be doing much of a job in this stuff.
