Is this cotton candy algae?

Bent

I got nothin'
I posted this in a different thread, but figured I would start a new one since that one took a new subject turn.

There's a question in the other thread that this is actually a huge ball of CC algae...

It is highly suspect...

It came on a tbs rock and has been growing ever since. I used to like it, but now I'm hearing that clock from "24" counting down every time I look at it.

If it is (and someone very knowledgable in the other thread says it is), how do I go about pulling it safely?

Ah crap! I actually meant to. That was the whole point of starting a new thread.

Typical. I wouldn't really expect him to give you a long drawn out answer on how this type of algae could become a major problem in your tank if your not careful, especially since he sold it to you.
Good luck though. :)

The decision was made for me today as the current in the tank detached it.

Upon inspection I still don't think its CCA. It holds its shape, it's dense and not filamentous, and it's structured differently than what I would expect CCA to be. The structure is very organized, and tough.

Here's some out of the water pics:

I put it in the other DT with the hare. We'll see if he eats it.

If it's not CCA, then what is it? I find it kind of funny that you naysayers are so quick to shoot it down but offer no guesses of your own. I used your pictures and started a thread in the TBS forum and got two confirmations that it is. Also, it's been over 24 hours and I've yet to here from your boy.

Hmm. I guess if it ends up everywhere, we'll know. I was going to play it safe and try to remove the entire rock this week like we talked about, then this happened before I could.

I do appreciate the input cloak. I really do. Fingers crossed man.
