I've never heard of the whole vodka theory. I can't however argue w/ the results. Wow, that is a beuty of a tank. If I could add my two cents though, I realy don't feel as if your looking at cyanobacteria. I'm dealing with an outbreak of the stuff as we speak. As far as I'm concerned you don't need a microscope to know the difference. Red slime (cyano) is a deep crimson color and blankets as it grows, so it comes off in sheets. What you have is a diatom bloom for sure. Not very dangerous unless it gets so out of control it completely covers your inverts. I've seen it get hair-like formations especially in high flow areas. A standard clean up crew will take care of it. Also, keep in mind that this is perfectly normal when cycling a newer tank (less than a yr old). Try to be patient and it WILL subside in time. I wouldn't bother scrubbing your rock in that the free-floating particles will land in new places and just create more unsightly mess. Best of luck to you, and try not to get dicouraged.
