I'd say hair algae also. My Turbo snails are doing a pretty good job of knocking some of that back in my tank.

The tank is three years old I bought a tank yesterday that is meant to eat it but don't think he has eaten any yet

That is definitely green hair algae. Best bet is to pull out whatever you can by hand and also get your nitrates/phosphates in check. Do you have test kits to check the current readings?

Ok thx but what's with the bubbles in the middle of hair algae? I'll test when I get home I did have a touch of nitrate last test i did

I would get some phoseguard n do a 15 to 20% water change weekly, until its under control. I had it happen to me a few months back because i siphon my sand bed. now it is about 70% gone, i also added more hermits they do a very good job in eating those up, better then my snails. I hope in the next month or so it will be gone.

Another vote on hair algae. I have been fighting dinos for about a month or more now, it looks very different. (I am starting to get the upper hand on my problem finally!!)
