Is this Euphyllia?

They Got My Number
Noticed this in my sump the other night. The tube at the bottom of this thing was always there but it was previously completely stone white. It has been in the sump for a couple months now with light (alternating from my tank lighting) and now the tube is green and has tentacles growing out of it. People on the CMAS and invert forums have been saying it is some kind of Euphyllia or a mojano but I just can't believe that it would regenerate from seemingly nothing.

My thoughts were:

  • Some kind of hydroid
  • Mojano (but I have never seen one with a tube before)
  • Duncan (probably not)
  • Euphyllia

Anyone have any thoughts?

actually, it might be possible. I have recently found a small piece of hammer skeleton that has been my sump for 1/2 year and maybe longer in last guy's sump for even longer.

he gave me a bunch of coral rubbles, and this is one of them.

I have refugium in my sump so, there's some light, and that's probably what keeps it alive after it regenerate itself again. best part is, it still maintain some colour as well.

Definitely appears euphyllia-like... Can't say for sure I guess. Like to see what it turns out to be though. Keep us updated.

Its definitely an LPS, of some kind. Euphyllia? I cannot say for certain. Pretty cool find, though I must agree with that!

I have a frogspawn that is branching a a new head and it doesn't get much light and looks identical.

I am no expert but that is my vote.

If it is on an old hammer skeleton then highly likely to be a hammer. Old skeletal can produce polyps much like Anthocauli in Fungia sp.

This pic is of an hammer base after I cut it up for frags, the polyps came latter. I see this quite often and never throw away the old bases any more these make great new colonies :)
