yes mam. remove as much as you can by hand. i've seen where someone made a suction brush out of a toothbrush with a hole drilled in the head, shoved some ro/di line in the hole, and when he brushes the algae off the rodi line syphons it off into another container.
You can turn your lights off for 3 days to give it a initial punch. then blow off your rocks with a powerhead and try to filter out as much deuterius as you can. then look at some phosphate removing media.

I use small brushes that you would use at Mary Kay, etc. parties for mascara. I wind it around the algae and pull it out. I deal with it constantly in my 12 nano. I am not being religous about my water changes and ordering Puragen. Good luck.
