Is this ich? VALENTINI PUFFER

I got this Puffer 2 weeks ago and i haven't quarantine him:/ i have noticed 2 little ich looking spots on his fin only(not on his body) but the number of white dots have been multiplying, still nothing on his body just on his fin. He is eating well one day, not so hungry another day.. but alternates. However he has been sleeping a lot the past few days . I have yellow tang and 2 clown fishes in this tank and they do not have any signs of ich what so ever.
Could this be ich? Or something else?

Looks like Ick to me.....to be safe....take him out and put him in QT and all other fish as well. Read up in the sticky notes Ick identification and treatments for fish in QT. There are only 3. TTM, Hyposalinity and Copper. Read up on each and pick the one that best works for you. Nothing but these three work. DT must go fish less fir 72-76 days.
The faster the better.

Let's see what others think!

Can someone else chime in here and advise if they see Ick?
 
Sure looks like crypto (marine ich) to me.

I would remove from DT and get in a QT and start treatment immediately.

You'll want to leave the DT fallow (fishless) for 76 days. There is no such thing as a reef safe crypto medicine.

Options for treatment include Copper, Tank Transfer Method, or hypo-salinity.

I'd go the copper route personally, treating for 30 days and then observing for another 30 days.

So there you go confirmation.
I use cupramine (copper) as well, just follow manufactures reccomendations exactly....too little don't work...too much is deadly.

Good luck, with a little research in the stickys and some patience you can rid this parasite.
 
Bummer... looks like ich to me too.

To be clear, all fish in the tank need to be treated. It's a tough lesson to learn.

Pat is correct. All fish need to be treated. It sucks but the only way to eradicate the parasite is to go fallow and treat the effected fish.

Don't subscribe to the thought that garlic works to treat, or that there's this magic reef safe cure. It's all snake oil. If you can get all fish to eat in QT, that's a good thing. If they already not eating, that's no bueno.

You can soak foods in selcon to give them extra nutrients to help survive treatment. Inverts and corals don't need to come out. Leave temp where it is in DT, and feed sparingly to keep bioloads and inverts fed.

I know sometimes its not visinle but I dont see ich on my other fishes and its been 2 weeks. Could i take just the puffer out and leave my other fishes in tbere and observe?
 
It has a cycle that goes 76 for some strains. You only see it during a small part of that. It is best to just treat it all. If you have lots of fish, do hyposalinity if the types of fish you have can take it. Get a tub from a feed store. 50-70g

If you have a few small fish, do tank transfer.

Copper works well and is easy, but the tank will not cycle. Copper kills that bacteria too.

The most hands off is hyposalinity with a topoff.

Short answer? Yes.

You will never know. You may think its fine. But they may have it. They probably do have it, to a lesser extent you won't see. Leaving them in their happy normal tank unstressed won't cause it to get 'worse', it is a stressor event that will. (Introducing new fish, power outage turning off heaters and losing flow, etc).
 
Be careful with copper, to my knowledge puffers are sensitive to it. If you're going to use Cuprimine add it in half doses over 4 days instead of over 2.

If it were me though I'd TTM all fish for the 12 days and then QT for the remainder 64 days that the tank needs to stay fallow. TTM is much less invasive, safer for the fish, easier for the owner i.e. no need to measure out doses or test regularly to make sure levels are correct and imo much more successful.

Do you have a UV sterilize? Put it on 24/7. All tanks can have ick (or all do). Like Rover said, it's when a stressor occurs, their immune system drops and they are then more susceptible.
Garlic is good only in that it has vit. C which helps the immune system. I would definitely dose my food and put some of the extreme garlic in my tank directly if they start to not eat.
Copper is tricky and residue can stay in your tank for a very long time. So just do your research prior to dosing that.
Also... cleaner shrimp (have at least 2) will set up a station and the fish will go to that station and get their gills, mouths, selves cleaned as much as they can tolerate, swim away... come back for more. It's fun to watch.
Just my 2 cents and best wishes. You should take some garlic too... this is very stressful. Lol
