Is this ich?

I just noticed this on most of my fish today. I just added live sand to my refugium in my sump and it made my water very cloudy. So once it started clearing up I noticed this on my fish. I hope this is not ich. My tank is about 40 days cycled. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1381894805.316947.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1381894823.616874.jpg

yes its more than likely ich. what other livestock do you have in the tank? also whats the tank params?

Everything is perfect except my ph is low. I have few crabs, flame angel, golden maroon clownfish, Blenny, spotted mandarin goby, bicolor angel. I have 93 gallon cube with sump, octopus protein skimmer, live rock, uv sterilizer, strong lighting radion xr30w g2. It's just strange how everyone got it at the same time. After I added that live sand in my sump and it got so cloudy for hours and after it's started to clear up everyone has white spots. These spots are very sparkly as well. Plus everyone is eating well and swimming just fine.

I thought maybe it was the stuff that's in the live sand stuck on their slime coat. Tank is 40 days old. I've only used RO water and every fish I put in has been dipped in fresh water before they go in the main tank. I've even dipped the live rock IoI.

You need to understand the life cycle of the parasite... Read throgh the stickies above. Its in the tank, it will come back in larger numbers and easily kill all the fish unless they are removed and properly treated and the display fallow 12 weeks.

So I setup a QT treating with copper with all my surviving fish in it. So in my main tank all I have in it is live rock and sand. Can I just lower my salt level in that tank to get rid of ich and any other parasites? Instead if waiting 12 weeks for it to fallow? There are no invertebrates in the main tank.

I've successfully battled an Ick infestation using Garlic Guard soaked food and poured directly into the water. I noticed that each iteration of the life cycle infected my fish less and finally after a couple weeks, I could not see any Ick spots on any fish. It has worked for me on 2 separate occasions.

Lowering salt level (SG) only kills free swimming ich. The other stages can take up to 12 weeks to emerge. There isn't an easier way. If you don't use a QT with all new fish, this will happen again.

Garlic will do nothing to cure ich.

I heard raising the water temp will will speed up the hatching? Would that work? Lower salt level and increase water temp.

Even if raising the temp speeds it up, how do you know it does for sure? Is it worth the risk of having just one cyst possibly remain? I've been there done that, get impatient, read this, believe that, in the end I had to do a full 12 weeks anyways. So instead of doing the 12 weeks in the first place, it was a mess of multiple tear downs, catching fish.

+1

It's no fun to go fishless for 12 weeks, but the peace of mind it brings makes it more than worth the effort.

Somewhere, you can read almost anything about ich. Here's what I'd read first:http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1992196

Raising temp is a standard for FW ich, SW ich is a different critter. Your question about speeding up the time is among the most common on this forum. The answer is always the same. 12 weeks.

Just curious: if the garlic worked, why two separate occasions?
