Is this lens worth it?

I'm getting a Nikon D5500 and looking at a bundle, they have the base one that is the camera and a 18-55mm lens for $799. The other bundle is the camera, a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm for $899.

Is that extra lens with the extra $100? I'm looking to take photos of everything from scenery, animals, sports, portraits, fish of course(but I'm getting a macro for this), etc.

It's ok. If you're just getting into photography and don't know how far you want to take it, get it. The flagship 70-200 is over 2 grand.

Personally, I think you would find the 55mm too short in some situations...and you'd be looking for a little zoom.

For $100, I don't think it's a bad deal. I'd hate to see you find out you want it afterwards, and need to pay more for it.

If this is your first DSLR and you arent sure the extra $100 is probably worth it until you figure out how and what you like to shoot with. After that you can start getting other lenses that fill more of the niches.

You're better off buying a second hand macro lens to shoot your tank for the same $100 rather than that lens... My 2 cents

The 55-200 lens will be almost useless to use in aquarium photography. HOWEVER, you can definitely use it on a day to day basis for other type of photography, so long as you have good light to shoot in.

I'll be using the extra lens for shooting day to day stuff. As far a tank shots go, I'll definitely invest in a macro lens.
