Is this normal for a Haddoni to do this?

My Blue Haddoni sometimes extends upward. Is that normal? I have Tek T5s with the individual reflectors. Has 216 watts. So lighting is not the issue. Am I just overreacting or should I be somewhat concerned? Thanks.

If your Hadonni is at the bottom of your tank with only 265w of lighting, that may be the issue. But Im no expert on that. Thats only 4.6ish watts per gallon of lighting on your 55g. And I know that T5's cant penetrate like MH, but distribute the lighting alot better in a tank.

I see my mushrooms that I keep in my underlit refugium do what your anemone is doing.

But Ill let the more experience people chime in.

My hoddoni does that every once in a while (turns into a big vase), ussually when it is disturbed, or has eaten something (you missing any fish ;) ). I have 3 x 250MH w/ 2 x 160VHO, I dont thing it is reaching for light ...in my case at least.

Your lighting does seem a little under par, but your anem is rich in color and appears healthy from the pic, so I guess it is working for him. How long have you had it?

Oh boy, let the lighting debate begin.

First of all I said I had 216 watts of lighting not 265. But that absoluetly means nothing. Its not about watts/gallon.

Halides don't penetrate any deeper than any other light. The reason they typically provide more intensity at the sandbed is they start out much more intense. a 4x54 watt Ice Cap T5 setup will put more light to the sand than most 250 watt halides.
In general, the only reason halides penetrate deeper is because you can just get 400 (or 1000!)watts into a smaller area...where it takes a T5 setup a full 1.5'x4' area to do that much. Other than that though the T5s should penetrate deeper from a PAR/penetration/watt standpoint. The bulbs last longer and put out less heat. With good reflectors you can do pretty much anything you want with them as well. T5 fixtures that do not have individual reflectors compared to the Tek T5 fixture that has individual reflectors...well there is a big difference. Each bulb puts out 300% more light with an individual reflector than without.

Now that we have cleared that up lets move on to a real reason why my Bluecarpet is doing this behavior.

This was the original question. Pay attention to it.

My Blue Haddoni sometimes extends upward.

That means it always does not extend upwards, only sometimes.

So anyone no why its doing this?

Sorry if I sound rude or if I am coming off short with you guys, its just that I can't stand when people assume its the lighting when in reality my lighting is just as good if not better than a 250 watt MH system. Not to mention, my bulb combo was meant for growth. I have to bulbs that put out low kelvins which is good for PAR.

Well I feed my carpet about every 3-4 days and I have had it about a month.

I noticed that it sits up close to the glass. That could be part of it. However, we'll need some more information. When does it do the vase pose? After feeding, morning, night, clowns present? Mine has never done that, but mine is smack dab in the middle of the tank and not even close to the glass.

Dude relax! I just thought It might have been a lighting issue. That 265w is a typo as I am planning on buying a "265w" set up for a friend, and it was all in my head...sorry about that.

I have had a blue S.Hadonni for around a month, but mine has never done that. Pretty weird? What do you feed your anemone? Mine has alot more room to extend itself. And in your pic it seems like its a knit tight space.

Foster considering your tank is a 220g your lighting is a different case still:D 1125w!!! man, how do you do it!

Im not trying to start a lighting debate (I can care less what others think is best, I know what I like, and I know what works for me)

My point was that we have 2 completely different lighting setups, ...and yet my hoddoni does this too from time to time.

Relax???

Anyways, I think my Blue Haddoni is being cramped. He's really close to the glass and the rock behind it. Shall I rearrange soem rocks this weekend? Let me know.

My F1sh R D34D!, I was trying to start an argument with you. I was just giving you the straight up facts about T5s compared to MH.

Ehh no blood no foul.

Anyway, only thing I can come to conclusion to is that it doesnt have room to extend itself, and when it sways/moves around in the current it just stays up because its squished wth your aquascaping and your tank.

In your first 2 pictures is the anemone touching the glass? Or is it holding itself up without any help from tank walls?

Sam

I agree it seems cramped in there, looks like we will be doing some fun stuff this weekend with your tank.

ooops. I really meant that I was not trying to start an argument. Sorry.

I think he might be a little cramped. Today he is not extending but never quite does the fold thing like yours does.

In the picture it was touching the glass. I think I will be making room for it this weekend.

Anyone one else have anything to say?

My F1sh R D34D!, how come your carpet's mouth is open? Mine never does that. I thought it was a bad thing for its mouth to be gaping open. But your looks really good.

Its mouth isnt open. its just the angle of the shot. It dips, but the mouth is a tight nipple.

Ill take another pic in a few.

I dont think that it is open, but in fact its oral disc.

Your Haddon's anemone is still small. It will need more space when it grows larger. Maybe it's feeling out it's surroundings in advance of making a move.
