Is this normal?

When the lights came on today I saw all of this fuzzy stuff coming out the back and under my clam. I can't tell for sure if it's even connected to him or not. He seemed to have slid down the rock he was on about an inch. He is fully opened and appears as happy as ever. Params are; amm, trite,trate=0. Alk is 10dkh. PH is 8.0. Salinity-1.024. Ca- 440. temp is 80.6. I apologize for the pics, but the curved tank is very hard to get a clear close-up.

Has anyone seen this before?

He's still fully open.

looks like his threads that he attaches to the rock, he looks fine just probably doesn't like it there and wants to move

That's what I thoght too. Then I noticed the big clump and that he was moving down from the light and into more flow.

They can release their bysal(?)gland/foot sometimes and will be perfectly fine.I wouldn't worry too much yet.

Funny thing, mine did the exact same thing last night. I woke up and the clam was laying on its side on the sandbed. I noticed where it had been a clump of same exact thing as in the pics. I uprighted the clam and within a few minutes it had moved. I left it alone for a few hours and noticed it was digging in the sand bed, I lifted it and the foot was extending so I burried a flat rock in the sandbed and the clam attached today. Kinda neat.

Yeah, it was neat. I didn't have to worry too much since mine stayed fully open and happy looking the entire time. I was just surprised he was moving away from the light.
