Is This Real Or Not?????

I don't really know what a war coral is, but it looks like a favites. It's small, though. Way small judging by the size of the frag plug. It seems to me to be pretty steep on the shipping for something that small, but I don't ship coral for a living so what do I know?

Sure doesn't look anything like it to me :D I've had it before it was even a fad coral (got the second frag from the OG colony) and mine has never looked remotley like that one. Where's the colors, like RED?

Here's my original frag from a few years ago:

This is the person's whom named the coral, who I got it from:

This is what the Ebay seller Aquatic Collections is selling:

I wouldnt be one to know if it's the real "war coral" but can attest to these guys being good to deal with, and have awesome corals. Just got my shipment yesterday and am thoroughly impressed with size, color and health of what I recieved. There also out of the bay area, so it wouldnt be a stretch to believe that they aquired the war coral.

Shipping price is pretty standard coming out of California, its just high here for fedex. But if your within 100 mi. they ship it for just 25 bucks next day, cant beat that with a stick! As far as ebayr's go, these guys are one of the few honest sellers from what Ive experienced and especially compared to some of the horror stories like the picture sharing Micro/Acanthastrea/RARE sellers weve all come to know and avoid.

Not from the original War Coral, especially not at a buy-it-now of ~$50. Those guys are local to me, so I've seen their stuff in person.

They said that anything they have that's labeled "ILE" is Imitation Limited Edition, meaning a similar looking piece not from original.

They do have nice stuff including true LE's, though. Keep an eye on what they label as their Premier pieces. Those are the ones they consider the most special of their corals.

Well Norm, since they DO NOT denote that in the auction, they are trying to dupe buyers by using ILE into thinking it's an LE. Dishonest practive IMO.

It looks nothing like the War Coral. It may be a F. pentagonia, but it's colors aren't right for a War Coral.

Fragglereef was selling frags of the warcoral for somthing like 39.95!

Not arguing the fact if indeed it is or not. BUT, dont get hung up on the colors either. Thats like saying if I got a cali-tort and threw it in a system that wasnt dialed in and it got browned out, does this mean its not a true cali tort because the color is brown?

...

Because it was not a war coral ...

Elite, I've found Miguel at fragglereef to be a stand-up guy, and I would trust that something from him marked "TRUE Tyree war coral" would indeed be that. Just curious if you bought it and found it to be different, or what information you have that I don't.

Ask the person who named the coral :) ..

I'm not saying he is not a standup guy. It's just that a lot of people see a red with green eye favite, they call it warcoral.

Kinda like the AoG zoa :D ..

Oh BTW, the true warcoral is not only red with green eye. Look at Gresham's pic and you will see the different.

Sorry, I replied to your original, useless post, not your edited one.

I understand that a lot of people call a coral by something well known that it looks like. That's something we'll never get around.

However, it's a bold statement to say that an, in my opinion, respectable business flat-out lies about what they're selling. And based on what? Too good a price?

I'm not saying it is or is not the true war coral, though I'm inclined to defend a good guy, but to label it as an imitation because of a low price seems kind of ridiculous.

Are you sure about that? So basically you're saying Miguel is lying when he specifically stated that he got them from Tyree and raised them? I'm not saying one way or another, but thats a pretty bold statement.

Jesse - the war coral that you have came directly from Steve, I got it quite a while back when Frank & Tyree had their thing going - it was pre-auction. Skip's frag grew out WAY better than mine did. I actually would love a frag back when you grow it out, I lost mine!

I also love Jendub's and want to get a frag of theirs. They say its fleshier and meatier. I have one from Joetbs and its really wild, he's posted pix here and I love it. I dunno if its really a Fav. Pent. since the mouth doesn't look as defined but the coloration is the same. The green is kinda sparkly like glitter, I'll try to find a pic.

My frag from them came with grayish striations like Gresham's photo - but Skips frag is solid red. Pretty wild how they can vary like that.

Edit - like Ryan I'm not trying to make a statement either. But I doubt Miguel would lie about it, from what I've heard of him. He was VERY clear when he was selling them for $39 that they were the real deal. I'm not taking a stand at all, but there are a lot of folks that bought those frags and it should be cleared up whether they're authentic or not since I'm sure those will be propped and sold. And for the record I didn't buy one although I almost did as a backup!

And I apologize, not trying to start an argument here. I'm making myself look much more involved than I actually am. Just saying, if you're going to say someone is misrepresenting something they're selling, you'd be much better off to have some evidence of it.

In my opinion, taking a grossly overpriced coral and selling bits of it for much less (still overpriced in my book) is not a crime worthy of being labeled dishonest.

My two cents.

OK.. If you guys say it is then it is :) ..

BTW: any of you guys have the picture that Miguel posted on his website??

Well, I'm not saying it is or isn't - but it probably should be clarified. I TOTALLY agree that way too many things get sold as the real deal and they're not. I've never even bought from Miguel but have a few things that originated from him and a few "internet reefer friends" (fellow nerds) hold him in pretty high regard. I didn't save any pix from his site.
