I was cleaning my garage last night, and found my 3 (covered) salt buckets which I had put live rock in when I tore down one of my tanks in Feb 08!!! There was still enough saltwater covering the rocks. The water didn't smell too bad (relative I guess) but was CRYSTAL CLEAR and the rocks were PERFECTLY CLEAN and white!
I guess it was sort of like Long-term rock-cooking for a year, without the circulation, heaters, or water changes. (may have even froze over the winter, who knows)
I'd hate to throw away perfectly good rock if I don't have to.
Questions:
A) Can this rock be reused?
B) How should I clean it/prepare it, to make sure no Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) remains in the rock, since it was sitting in stagnant water for over a year ?
Thanks in advance for any help
(oh, and I am now a firm believer in covered rock cooking to remove EVERYTHING from rock)
