Is this silicon reef safe?

There are no mold inhibitors in GE2, it's just a neutral cure silicone that naturally resists mold. It's also designed for performance in sealing plastics, so not a great choice for a sump. GE1 is an acetyl cure (vinegar smell) designed for use on glass and the better choice for sumps. Key is allowing adequate curing time. I ALWAYS give it a full week.

GE 1 windows and doors is what many of us including myself have probably used the most over the years, but just be aware it usually yellows or miscolors in not much time, so if you care at all about that and you want to just go get it rather than order aquarium sealant online I'd get the aqueon at petco, it stays really clear and seems to have a better bond.

That's a good point. Most of the GE1 I've used has either gone yellow or pink. It is my opinion that most silicone problems are due to insufficient curing time rather than some mythical mold inhibitors. It's relatively cheap, so I just always use either the aqueon or marineland branded stuff. Just to be safe.

GE 1-Door and Window is what I used on my sump. I think I only waited a day or two before filling it up with water. I didn't experience any issues

GE1 is safe but I wouldn't use it on tanks larger than a 75-gallon and that would be iffy on a 75-gallon. It really doesn't have high tensile or psi strength. If you want something that last and has high tensile strength got with GESCS1200 or Dow Corning 999-A is good. I know some use the Momentive I think it's 103, but can't remember. The ASI they sell at BRS is also pretty decent also.

Also, make sure you have put thicker beads and ignore the time it says on the tube to cure. If you use thicker beads it will take much longer to cure. I always wait at least 1 week.

just my 2 pennies :uhoh2:
