Is this true?

I have heard that there are people called Cherry Pickers that work for the Big Website around the country that go around and pick Coral from warehouse in CA? Is this true? Can the Public walk into these places?

Almost all LFS get there corals from wholesalers near LAX. The local California LFS are allowed to come in and cherry pic corals for their stores leaving the rest of the nation's LFS to fight for the leftovers. Some LFS even have reps there that will pic out corals to be shipped out. Smaller mom and pop stores get the bottom of the barrel. There are a couple of good wholesalers that don't allow this though.

:( sadly my lfs is usualy left with the rejects..

They seem pretty well hidden. Most won't even talk to you unless you have a license so I wouldn't even waste your time. Many won't even let you in the door unless you have a storefront.

Many place ads in aquarium trade publications. Several do have websites but they are difficult to find through searchs.

Hey I see no problem with that, you just need to order from the cherry pickers. :D

Swing up that road by LAX at 5:00 am on a Monday morning and you will understand why all the good stuff goes to LA.
They have way more really nice LFS's EVERYWHERE on every corner then we do in S. Florida., and everyone of them is in the lines.
People who spend 5 or 10 grand every week are going to get a rep who will pick through it...

That said, you can talk your way in with no problems. The problem is they wont sell to you unless you have a license.

You wouldn't want to go in there without being able to buy, it would just ruin your day and make you sad to see the $5 deal/dying bin. :
