Hello. I purchased this torch coral on 3/2/2013. Acclimated and put in tank on sandbed. A few days later I decided to take some pics. I was messing with the camera with different settings, and forgot to turn the flash off. The torch immediately closed up, and I haven't seen him since. Do you think he's dead. It's been over a week, probably 10 days. Here's the pics.

Here's what it's looked like ever since.

You dont need to take it out, you can leave it and use it to glue a frag to later or just have another piece of live rock in the tank. Sorry your torch died, what are you water params with numbers?

I don't think the flash is what killed it either, but the fact remains, after the flash incident, it was not seen again.
Water parameters on 3/16/13 were as follows:

Using API test kits
pH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitirite 0
Nitrate around 10

Using Salifert test kits
Phosphate 0
Calcium 450
Alkalinity 7.7 dKH
Magnesium 1200

Temp is 78 and salinity is 1.024, tested with refractometer. I use ro/di water.
Next scheduled test date is 3/23/13. All tests prior to last Saturday were only the API tests, as I just got the Salifert ones last Saturday. Temp and salinity have been constant. I have an API kit for PO4, but it isn't precise enough. The color is always between the 0.0 & 0.25, closer to 0.0 since I've been running the Phosban reactor.

Don't remove it. Just tuck it in a corner still in the light. It'll probably come back. Euphyllias are amazingly tough. Popped heads can regrow skeleton, apparently-abandoned skeleton can suddenly produce a new head. I have one at the side of my tank that's decided to regrow two heads in the place of the one that bailed.
Never remove a euphyllia, plate, or dead brain. They're resurrection artists.

Cool! I did decide to leave it in there, mainly because I was feeling just a bit lazy.:o
