Islander's Old School Reef – 900 Gallon Display

Hi Kevin, great to see the build coming a long nicely and sorry I've only just caught up. Promise to visit you at some point this year, just need to find a new customer in TW.

Best regards from Switzerland

yifan917, Happy to see you are adding the extra effort to adding the ball valves. You will not regret it. On the 850 we are building we will have 24 true union valves

24!!?? Wow!!! That's gonna be awesome, I wish I had the real estate to do that.
Yes, I think I made the right decision, thank you!

Hey Nigel, thanks for helping me since the beginning, really appreciate that. We should definitely meet in Taiwan! Just let me know when.

I have to admit I think your way is better considering the cost of the oceans motion and extra plumbing. Its a trade off. We saved in Red Dragon pumps but spent a bunch extra on Plumbing and oceans motion.

All I can say is AMAZING !!! Your home renovation and dream tank are both amazing.

Like you, I also run a closed loop and I didn't want to see all the returns pointing forward. The solution turned out to be very simple and is what is used in the big display tanks at Disney Orlando. It's called Polygem 307 lite and I used it to disguise the returns as little cave openings coming out of the rock work. It worked perfectly! It's also by far the best product to epoxy rocks together so you can easily create 'rule of thirds' aquascapes with shapes that inspire and stay secure. It's very strong and natural looking, like live rock, if you don't use any coloring additives. Rub a little sand over the epoxy while it cures and it will blend in with your rock work and add to your already amazing system (and home). You won't regret having this epoxy on hand.

Yes, I think there are pros and cons with every design. I used to run Oceans Motions and they are great in every way. Look forward to seeing your tank!

Thanks for the kind words, and yes I love my new home renovation, I just hope the reef tank won't be an eyesore in the future lol. Gonna do this tank RIGHT.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will see how can I order some Polygem from Taiwan. I hope I can find a distributor here, that's even better.

Hmmm need to move the Cerebra power bars somewhere else, otherwise this panel won't fit at all (still got two more RD 3 controllers, one Calcfeeder controller, and probably a SOS skimmer overflow stopper controller)

Don't know if I mentioned earlier but I got this set of Cerebra for a deal I couldn't refuse, that's why I decided to give it a try. Finger crossed!

Is that the genesis system?

Just bought a blue light filter lense for my iPhone, I thought it'd be nice for a grab-n-go tool for my new tank diary. Works pretty well for 12 dollars. Sorry for the dirty tank and hazy water, I haven't done any water change around a year already, this "holding" tank should be full of plankton and fish poop lol

I love the light rack and plans. Sorry for the question and mainly from a personal opinion. Any chance you could add more VHOs? Similar to this? I get you have PAR covered and even Coverage but shadowing and controllability would take it up a notch.

All the other lights will overpower the VHO
