I was playing around tonight with different settings and my teleconverter tube. These are all handheld at 283mm which is 566 effective. I had it set at 4.5(I lose a stop with the teleconverter) 3200 ISO and shutter speeds from 1/60th to 1/160th.

So, they lack sharpness probably from camera shake(I am not the steadiest shot!) and motion blur. Considering the conditions, I am not too horrified by them. I think I will try with the tele tube and the macro lens which will take me to a max aperture of F2.8.

Fun experiment anyhow

Other than the vertical banding from the sensor amplifier, these are very usable shots! Certainly nothing that couldn't be fixed in post. Nice experiment, Julie. :D

Cool- more is better :p Great fish you have there too.
Small correction- you lose two stops of light with a 2x converter, at least you do in the slr world. What camera are you using?

It is a 1.4 converter, so, it is only one stop of light. That is also why it turned a 200mm lens into a 283 which equals the FOV of a 566mm. Which, is also why I can't handhold effectively at such slow shutter speeds

With digital, you do things just to see how it will turn out. Doesn't cost film or processing :)
