Issues with Net Setup... help an Apex noob?

I have recently made the switch (sold my RKE, to be picked up in 2 days) and bought an Apex. Right now it is a simple system (base, head unit, one EB8).

In the Unofficial User's Guide, I have followed all the steps and I still cannot access the Apex from my PC's browser.

I have done a complete system ititialization, and checked all the numbers.

The relevant data:
Windows Vista
DLink wireless router (Apex is a wired connection to this router)

When I connect the freshly reset Apex to the Ethernet cable, from what I see my DLink (IP 192.168.0.1) assigns the Apex an IP (192.168.0.50).
However, I can't see the Apex from my browser. When I manually enter the IP rather than using "http://apex", I get the same result. I tried to continue with the tips in the guide, but Vista (through the DOS prompt) is telling me that "telnet" is not a valid command or something of that nature.

I went through and verified the settings as best I could, but I'm coming up empty. I'm kind of in a bind as my RKE is sold and this controller has got to be up and running tomorrow at the latest.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Telnet is not installed by default with either Vista or Windows 7. Google 'telnet vista' and you'll find plenty of info on how to enable. It's easy.

Have you modified your port from the default of 80. If so, you need to append that to the end of the IP address - 192.168.0.50:8080 or whatever.

Also, you must reboot the Apex anytime you change network parameters before they are operational.

Thanks... I didn't modify the port, and I did save every time. After going through the steps enough times, it's finally working. What I did, I don't know, but I'm not questioning it.

While I have your attention, can you explain why when I go to Module Status I only see the display listed (no EB8)?

Also, if I enter the "program outlet" screen, I see:

VarSpd 1_I1
VarSpd 2_I2
VarSpd 3_I3
VarSpd 4_I4
SndAlm I_6
SndAlm I_7
EmailAlm_I5

Which totals only seven outlets? And the last ones are virtual outlets if I understand correctly? Do I change what those are in programming my outlet functions (i.e., do they actually indicate physical outlets in this case)?

Thanks a million!

It doesn't look like your EB8 has been recognized by the controller. Try to unplug it from the controller, wait a minute then plug it back in. The controller should see it and add the 8 outlets along with their default programs. You should have a total of 15 outlets - 8 physical from the EB8 and the 7 virtual that you see.

That was easy enough... the Aquabus cable had come about 1/8" out of its socket.

Again, thanks a million!

As soon as I get PayPal'ed for my RKE, you got a Starbucks headed your way!
