It Begins

First I would like to thank everyone involved in the move or had some part in assisting me this weekend. Whether it was mucles, equipment or encouragement, thank you all.

Dre and Crooks came over yesterday and helped with muscle and equipment. Thank guys.

Friday evening was a late night as I had to finish the tile in the basement for the move. Sneaking into bed at 2:45 a.m. after the basement work and trying not to wake the wife up only left me anxious and wife eyed staring at the ceiling making sure I had everything in order for the day to start at 4.

Got up, went over my checklist, fed the pooch and he and I left for the shop at 5 to pick up the truck and trailer and misc. equipment for the move. I took 20 minutes and played some ball with the little man. 10 1/2 month Rottie named Zuki. He goes every where with Daddy even spending his days and nights with me at the shop. He is awesome.

Trailer hitched up and back on the road at 6:30ish. Arrive at the pick uu locale and shoot the poop with the owner. Meet the wife and they met Zuki and even let him into their beautiful home. He was in heaven.

Go over the list and get everyting in the trailer set up waiting for the muscle. Help arrive and the loading went flawless and fairly quickly given that we screwed off a bit.

Back on the road at 9:30ish headed to Rod's for the stock tank. Met with Rod, shot the poop, he met Zuki and got a hand and armful of kisses and slobber. Thanks for the tank Rod. As always, a pleasure talking with you and seeing you again.

Head home and wait for the muscle. Muscle arrives and the trailer was emptied and tank in place in roughly 30 minutes. Great work guys and thank you again.

Got the tank in place and had to make some modifications to the stand to fit my application. Mods done and the work was getting ready to start.

Crooks stopped by with some equipment. Thanks brother. Nice meeting you. I even took some time out to go see his almost identical tank to mine so I could dream some more. Very nice 240g. Jealous.

Back home and pulled everything into the garage and downstairs. Made sure the sump would fit under the stand since the previous owner had the sump behind the wall.

Did some inventory and made a parts list for today and called it quits at midnight.

Back up at 4 and played with the pooch since he was neglected all afternoon yesterday. Went for a walk and played some ball.

Hung the Di unit in the laundry room and flused it for an hour. Ran to Menard's and picked up the missing pieces to the puzzle. Finished the plumbing on the drains and return and moved on to the leak test. Small leak on one of the drains. Fixed it, well I thought, it's now leaking a tiny bit as I type. Should be an easy fix. The tank is currently filling with water, I have 4 bags of sand in the tank, but need more. Grab some more this week sometime.

Let me post some picks for you picture hounds. :fun4: If I can remember how to do it.......

The tank in place

Plumbing. I have a ball valave on the left drain line so I can control the drain.

The return plumbing. The line going off the right with the ball valave is for the fuge.

The rock pictures. The 2 large rocks are easily 40+ lbs a piece. I was told this is Pukani and something else. The rock is dead, so I pressure washed it and it's currently drying on the driveway. Neighbors are giving me some funny looks.

RO/DI set up

<a href="http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/Poppy828/?action=view&current=IMG_5584.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/Poppy828/IMG_5584.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I used a saddle valve for the connection right above the utility sink

<a href="http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/Poppy828/?action=view&current=IMG_5585.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/Poppy828/IMG_5585.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Pick of the corner. Wwaste water goes right in to the sink. Eventually, I will run the DI line around the exterior basement wall to the evap tank that will have a float and use it for auto top off.

That's it for now. Tank has been filling since noonish. Might have 3 inches in the tank.

Thanks for following along.

Todd,

I see you are making progress with the build.. Looking real good ;)

That tank was not heavy at all.. LOL!!

Sitting at the Vet waiting for my boy to come home from his surgery today so thought I would check in.

Let the Di run all night and tank is nearly half full. Shut it down this a.m. while at work to avoid any issues plus the wife asked nicely if I would. I lost a some time filling, but I kept my wife happy so that's still a win in my book.

I called every place I know today and those that were not closed did not have any sand to snag to finish that off. I probably need another 80-100lbs maybe more.

Depending on how the Pooch is doing, I may spend some time aquascaping with the wife. She is the expert at it. I suck. Plain and simple, so she has been hired for this task.

If anyone can direct me to a place to use for hanging my lights, that would be awesome. Crooks mentioned a couple places, but I had a blonde moment and forgot. I have (2) 250W 12K Reeflux in Hamilton Carbo sun reflectors. The canopy I got with the tank just won't work for our setup, so we are going to hang them from the ceiling and forget the canopy all together.

Sorry for the lack of progress, but life does that sometimes.

Really no updates today unfortunately other than the tank is still filling.

Woke up to the basement floor soaked with water. Apparently the DI line fell out of the tank as it was filling sometime between 9:30 p.m. when I last checked it and 04:00 this a.m. when my wife noticed the water puddle in the basement.

So who knows how much water was lost, but the floor was covered a good amount. So that was time lost to filling the tank.

I did add another 80lbs of sand to the tank to make 200lbs worth. Of course in my haste to get it in the tank, I didn't rinse it and now the tank is all cloudy. No aquascaping tonight.

I am using Caribsea Seafloor special grade sand as I liked it in the past for it's ability to not blow around too much and burrowing attributes for the planned stocking list.

Anyway, cloudy tank is filling and it has a long way to go. It's about 80% or so and then the sump is next. If I could place the rock, I am sure that would help a lot. Stupid cloudy sand.......

Tank is filled and running.

Big thanks to Crooks for assisting me this evening with some plumbing chores. We have the tank as silent as it can be to make the wife happy.

THANKS CROOKS!!!!!!!

So, the cycle begins. I am trying to get some cured live rock to throw in with the dead rock to help the cycle happen quickly.

I also need to hang the lights and run some electrical boxes under the tank or some type of power supply for all these gizmos.

If anyone knows of an Auto top of unit for sale let me know. That's a piece of the puzzle I am still missing as well as some more flow for the tank.

Wife will be doing her aquascaping in the coming days. Once she does, I will get more pics and post them here.

Thanks
