I cleaned up and recalibrate my 2 part dosing pumps today. I am starting out at ~ 20ml of 50% diluted part 1 and part 2, aver a week I will test again and adjust accordingly

ok a few recent photos

Here are 3 chalics, the blue with red eyes on top is a real fast grower. I got it about 6 months ago free from a local LFS to try and save. the small red one in the middle was a hitchhiker on a piece of rubble i bought from a local reefer. and the last one is actually a bright lime green, i bought it as a frag and won't be chopping it... I have never seen anything like it

here is a blue polyp green cap frag that is coming along nicely. it survived my last tan calamity

random side shot with everything out of focus

dark purple acro... super slow grower. I got it as a vrown colony over a year ago and it has not grown much at all

so so photo of my frag rack, I drilled 3/8" holes in those shelf rocks so they hold frag plugs

I bought this birds nest as a 3" colony over a year ago, it is now about 11" around. the green pocillopora was a hitchhiker I did not know about, it is at least 5" in diameter now and they get along great. when it first popped up, I thought it was a galaxia

I am coming close to making a decision to put a small clown trigger in the system. A key component of the decision it the realization that I am going to have to redo my rockwork, probably within the next 6 months anyway. Unfortunately I ignored some good advice given to me by some very experienced reefers. That advice was not to build the rock up past 1/2 the height of the tank. It is becoming painfully obvious that something needs to be done as my colonies are soon to start running out of space.

Before i start, I will want to have a temporary 40-60 gallons setup. I will probably be removing 30-60 pounds of live rock and several colonies. it is sort of like going on a trip... when you pack to go home, there is never as much room in the suitcase as when you left  The idea being that I would like to have someplace to keep the rock and corals that I will be selling after the remodel

I think I will suspend the sale of my ER 6-2+ I can use that, now all I need is a tank sump and light to use for a few weeks to sell my excesses

If the Clown trigger becomes troublesome, I can remove it when I do the remodel

I hope it works out for you. I'm thinking of trying an aggressive softy reef. I had shrooms and GSP with a bunch of triggers and a puffer in the past.

a few new photos from my tank..

this one makes me sad, this cool chalice that I grew from the size of a quarter, keeps falling... onto acans, which just destroy it :(

thanks !

I do need to take some new photos of some new coral and my new aquascape. Some of the colonies were about to start growing out the top of the tank  I tried and FAILED at taking a FTS but I lowered the rock structure on the right side of the tank by about 8" or 80 pounds of rock

Also I just procured a vortech MP40 and battery backup through barter and am considering how / where to use it.. more flow is good flow :)

Hey Mark,

I've been following this build for a while and was hoping you could give me some more info on your overflow pipe? Mine is similar in that it's a straight tube down to the sump but mine is super loud.

Yours is pretty trick looking does it cut down on the noise?

My goal is to run an MP40 as well but I could imagine if I set it to make a wave all I would hear is the constant sucking noise when the water drops on one side.

My 1st mistake was to drill the drain hole on one side of my tank instead of the middle.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I used 3/8" rod

and yes, at first it sounded like a toilet continuously flushing in my living room. I went to home depot and bought a 4" or was it 5" PVC end cap and set it over my standpipe... silent now

I think there are pics in this thread, if not I will take one tonight

you could put a couple of 90 degree elbows on your standpipe and move over to the center

Ok now I see what your talking about... Really that 2" to 4" or 5" flair did the trick?

That's too easy!
Thanks Mark!
