It Was Hare Yesterday...

I am having the worst luck w/seahares! Either they get stuck on the intake or just drop dead on me! I thought I'd try one again, in a LR/frag-holding tank I have set up, while waiting for my 90g upgrade to be complete. I have a ton of red hair algae. I put the hare in there a few days ago & never saw it again! I just pulled out 100lbs of LR from the tank looking for it & no hare. I tested for ammonia today, to see if it might be in there dead & it's still 0.

I lost 3 belly up, ignored the loads of algae in my tank. Never try one again. Inked while dead (oozed out of it).

But this fella was a good 3-4". I'm so afraid of what a dead one will do to my tank. I looked everywhere--practically... Don't you think I'd be seeing ammonia after a few days though?

gee i had one that got quite big and eliminated my hair algae problem once and for all maybe a year and a half ago. was gone for the weekend and left the tank for dad to watch :-( and he was dead in the intake when i got home....... surprisingly though, i found him in pump intakes with bad injuries several time and each time he didnt ink and regained complete health quikly. i liked that little bugger........

I had mine disappear for 2-4 days. Don't know where he went, but he must've been only coming out at night. I wouldn't worry too much.

They can and will crawl out. Mine died because he decided to crawl out of the water onto the top of my tank edge-mounted powerhead. This was also the same powerhead that he'd been sucked into 2 months prior. It was kinda funny because when I pulled him out of the powerhead intake he was only half the size that he used to be and stayed that way. Kinda like liposuction :) .

I lost one too. No impact to the tank. I swear they just teleport away. I redid my rockwork 2-3 days after last seeing him and I expected to find a body someplace. Nothing. He was 3" as well. My LFS got 6 small ones in and could never find them. They tore apart the whole tank looking for them and since I drove out there to get one they gave me the bigger one for same price.

Mine did eat the algae for the 2 weeks it was around, but if you want to get rid of it I suggest Mexican Turbos. Make sure they are the mexican, not the california ones. The big suckers. I got 6 for my 72g and they are making short work of my red hair algae. I think 4 are going back to the LFS once it's gone. They eat too much!

I had a dozen vibex eat a dead Kole Tang before it had a chance to impact a 29gal system.

(Tang Police need not comment on this, I have learned from my mistake)
