Italy's Best! Matured SPS Aquariums.

I thought the whole idea was to add the amino acids an hour before lights out, and the papone immediately after? I didn't think it was ment to be added together.

I do both. I use Reef Plus before feeding

why both? what kind of results are you getting (ie, color, growth, etc.)?

how much pappone do you add per gallon?

I have also tried the reef plus, my skimmer goes nuts when i put it in, but I haven't noticed much difference in polyp extension or coloration. however, I am not feeding papone yet, just cyclopeeze

I have had good results. The AA's are added before lights out to promote feeding then the pappone with the skimmer turned down not off. So if your skimmer is going nuts just turn it down so it can't skim. Also the pappone doesn't necassarilly promote better color just growth. You need to keep you Ca.,Alk, and mag. levels up to saturation levels. Ca. 450+, Alk 11+ and mag. 1450-1500. Keep an eye on nutrients also.

how much papone per gallon do you start with? and how quickly do you progress?
On my tank which is approx. 100gal. total system i use 2 small cubes. I bought some martini ice cube trays which are very small cubes. Less than 1/2" square. For your tank 29 gal.(?) I would start with less than 1/2 of one of those cubes. Feed once a week for 4-6 wks. Then increase to twice a week. I would say no more then 3x a wk and I would take my time getting there. HTH

ya, I currently feed cyclopeeze 2 times a week, so I would probably do that. do you know if the recipe can be scaled down, and if so, how? with such a small tank, and using so little, I hate to make a full batch.

If you have a seal a meal you can make a full batch and freeze it and it will keep for a long time. I made a double batch. Otherwise just you can just divide it into 1/2's or 1/3's.

Bought mine in a natural food and vitamin store. Would like to find asperatic acid. From what I understand it works even better.

Doesn't the H2O Life line have that as a primary ingredient?

I think you're probably referring to aspartic acid ;) . This is a non-essential amino acid in humans (meaning we can synthesize it from other compounds) but in corals, perhaps it's considered essential?

how is the aspartic acid better? should it be added to the papone or prior to lights out in the place of the reef plus amino acids?

http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=998&at=0
http://www.supplementwarehouse.com/

Here are two places I found that have it online.

with this being a powder, how is the best way to add it, and how much?
Jason, from what understand and I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) the aspartic acid is a little easier for the corals to use. I would have to back through this thread to find the reasoning behind it. I put one 500mg capsule in the pappone when I make it for 1 batch. So if you don't make a full batch and you buy in powder form I would find something to measure with such a small measuring spoon that measures in mg and go that way. If your going to use Reef Plus AA's ect. I would follow the instructions on the bottle for suggested amounts and frequency of use. But yes use the night you plan to feed an hr. or 2 before feeding. If you use to much or to frequently the AA's can cause diatom blooms. Make sure you start out slowly and allow your tank and corals to adjust. This food is very high in protien and you don't want to have excess nutrients. So keep a close eye on the tank and don't forget to turn your skimmer back up the next morning. You want to make sure to keep your levels up to. Alk, Ca, and mag.
