Italy's Best! Matured SPS Aquariums.

I melt my cube in a cup of tank water for about 30 min. When ready to stir in the cube I make sure it is melted in the water and add in front of a powerhead.

fishfanatic, I wouldn't start out with more than a half cube. That would have to be cut in half if you use the normal size cubes. I'm using a whole cube in my 120g.

The regular recipe calls for 1/4 of a cube (bout a quarter inch) per 100 gallons or so of tank volume per week to start with. It seems like it isn't much, but people who started out with too much here had issues.

Well I went to make this pappone stuff last night and everything went smoothly. I went to bed that night feeling fine. Then at 2 A.M. I woke up feeling a slight amount of naseau. It only got worse. Around 3 in the morning I ran to the bathroom to throw up. I vomited 6 times! After that I felt fine. I am almost positively sure that the raw seafood poisoned me. I am just warning everyone that you must be very careful when handling raw seafood! Any contact with the raw seafood can become pretty harmful. Next time I am going to be very aware about keeping my hands clean and not touching my face. I hope people read this so they don't have to go through what I did.

If your seafood came from "clean" areas ther shouldn't be an issue with getting sick. People eat raw oysters all the time. As long as they didn't come from area with with levels of the wrong types of bacteria there shouldn't be anything to worry about. This normally occurs when people obtain their oysters from areas with a lot of runoff, hence the high levels of bacteria, mainly from animal feces.

Clams and mussels shouldn't be any different. However, some people react adversly to iodine, which is in the shrimp.

^^ He's right^^

In addition, how the food is handled after it is caught and or purchased has a huge effect on whether or not it will make you sick. Seafood from any source must be kept on ice (very cold without freezing) to maintain food grade quality. All food and esp. seafood will grow harmful bacteria, this is why it goes bad even under refigeration. If the food starts to warm up at all, the bacterial growth accelerates exponentially. Even if you kill the bacteria by cooking, there may be toxins left over that will make you sick upon consumption.

Everyone should keep their fresh seafood chilled (small cooler with some ice) on the way home from the store whether it is for their tank or their family.

FWIW, I am a Chef by trade and have to maintain Food Service Sanitation and Food Handling Certification for my job annually.

I am at the point where i just dump it in like crazy every 3 days. I am putting what one would probably put in 350 in a 55 so it looks like a flood of plankton like you would see in nature.

I have not seen a lick of increased growth.......still the same growth...albeit i was feeding other stuff heavily before pappone.

I have done 15 feedings now with the last 5 done every 5 days and I couldn't be happier. My corals and all of them not just 1 here and there are growing in an excellerated fashion and look absolutely awesome. I am only using 1 cube at a time.

Sue
It's great you are having a huge change in your system:D
I see where you mentioned Reef Plus.I used this when using Zeo system.Eric/Fragfarmer suggested for me using this,to bring the colors back.Because corals were getting light in color:mad:
I've used Salfiert AA but never saw much of a change, until I used Reef Plus:eek2:
Being you are using Reef Plus are you adding the AA what directions that it calls for?Or are you backing off some of that juice?
I wish you would have took some pics before and after for us folks, that have just started this. But I guess we will all have to added it in,and see for ourselves.

I am using the Reef PLus exactly like it says 1 cap/20g. I dose for a 120g total water volumn. I actually was using it 2 times weekly before I started the pappone feeding. I started seeing growth with using just the RP. The pappone just kicked it into high gear.

Sue,
I noticed some older corals, the tips are changing color.I'm only into the second week of this combo. At what point did you see,and increase of Alk and Cal levels.Mine has been pretty steady at this point. But got a close eye on it.But these older corals, and showing signs of a color shift.Only a few at this point in time.I haven't done anything else.other than the RP/ And this fishy Gumbo.
Have you notice any difference in any of your LPS corals also.I would think if it helps SPS the LPS should follow also.

hopefully someone can answer me this. after dosing the pappone, you're supposed to take off the collection cup on your skimmer. if i do this, then it just overflows the skimmer body and back into the sump, makes a huge mess of the skimmer, even if i throttle it back all the way. is this what's supposed to happen??

i turn my skimmer off i have 2 returns coming into my sump and it makes alot of bubbles and current so my O2 levels stay up anyways, my skimmer goes nuts for like 3 days after i dose AA's so i cant really turn it back on, my AA's are HW biotip, google it anybody else heard of these or using these product?

Reefflections, my alk hasn't changed any, steady at 9.3dKh, but calcium I am now adding daily. I am trying to keep it at an elevated level like it suggested. I'm not boosting it over 500, but more keeping it around 450. I don't have any lps corals but I understand it's good for everything softies too.

fishyface, taking the collection cup off just keeps the bubbles going so oxygen doesn't drop. Mine also spills over the cylinder but it doesn't mess it up too badly.

What lighting for Frag / Growout for a major large tank build for myself. Which system of lighting would be recommended, which would then dictate the tank build. Or other recommended variation for this Frag Tank??
1. 48” X 96” with ??? T 5’s
2. 40” X 80” with Lumenarcs ??? MH
Either Tank would be 14” deep SW, racetrack design, end overflows with Tunze and wave boxes. Sump would have L.R and Mud filter with available Skimmer and Dosing. Blu Coral / “Pappone” Fastest growth for SPS ???
Tanks need to be built here in Bolivia but hardware can be brought from U.S. or Europe.
Frags to follow.
Thanx
