Its about ph

I was wondering how to keep my ph at around 8.2 without using alot of buffer, which raises my kh, and therefore allows the red slime algae to grow uncontrollably. My ro is around 7.6

Yep.. I've never tested for PH.. Just keep my ALK where I want it and all is fine..
Most would agree that chasing PH is not something one should do..

Interesting that you correlate cyano growth with alkalinity levels too... Haven't heard that one before..

The last time I tested for pH was a few years ago. And I only did it then to make sure the pH testers I had (and I had a few) were still working. If I need to test for pH, I'll have to borrow a test kit from a friend or go to an LFS and buy a test kit... probably not going to happen!

I agree with the above. When I was active in this hobby a few years ago it seem that pH was all the rage. I was checking and chasing it all over but in the end I concluded I could not do much about it so I concentrated on the important stuff. I have a pretty new tank and my pH is about 8.1, on the low side but it gives me some room when I need to start using Kalk.

Removing excess carbon dioxide is easier said than done. I even went so far as to provide fresh outside air to my skimmer and it didn't change a thing. Best advice is don't worry about it.

I agree with above. I've never tested the pH in my reef. A lot of common major aquarium disasters start with people trying to mess with pH.

RO water won't be the same pH as mixed salt water anyways.

Ph is like a spoiled teenager. It can't be controlled and has a mind of its own. The only way to make it go up a bit is to steal its CO2 via a CO2 scrubber or flooding the room with more outdoor air.

I agree don't chase ph the key is stability. you can open a window next to the tank to see if it goes up, if it does you can run a air line from the skimmer outside to draw in fresh air to get rid of co2, you can make sure your getting good flow and surface agitation. You can also run kalkwaser in your ato if you have corals.
