Its Baaaaaack- 2nd Diatom Outbreak

Well, I now have a 2nd diatom outbreak. Had one, then the green algae, and now in a 2nd brown diatom outbreak. The green algae is gone. I've done 2 - 20% water changes in the past week.
Its strange though, in the morning when I turn on the lights the water is slightly cloudy. By evening it is totally clear. That's after running the lights for 8 hrs.
Should I try leaving the lights on all night and see what happens?

I would not leave the lights on all night.. Just no need..
Are you sure its not cyano this time?

Are you using RO/DI water, and what is the TDS of that water?

How are you testing your parameters (Phos/Nitrate)?

How old is your tank?

Can you take a picture of the problem?

So many unknowns. Is this a new tank or has it been established for ___ months/years?

Is it stocked with: Fish? Coral? Inverts? etc.

As asked above, pics are very helpful. Ensure the white channel is on for pix and if possible turn the blue channel off or way down.

Hello folks,

It doesn't seem to be cyano. There is just a cloudiness in the water column. Since the green algae died out the rocks are quite clean with some brown. There is some brown in the sand bed but the CC is keeping it down and stirred up.

On the last water change I noticed the DI water TDS had crept up to a 2. It was previously at 0. I replaced all 4 filter media today and the DI is back to 0 for the next water change in a couple days.

I'm using Red Sea test for the Nitrate and a Hanna and Red Sea for the Phosphate.

The tank was started on 8/11/17. Went through its cycle in a couple weeks. Had a diatom outbreak which died out and then green algae. Both went away and about 10 days ago the 2nd diatom outbreak started.

On a side note, the cloudiness and brown in the sand bed seems to be going down. Guess I just need to be patient and let things settle down. My water tests show things to be good and the livestock healthy. Should I be concerned with the higher pH and lower Alkalinity?
Thanks for any help.
Jim
