It's mating season in Southern California

Each spring Hemisquilla californiensis breed in the California Basin. Often large numbers of males are out of their burrows searching for mates. Occasionally they are taken in large numbers in trawls and show up for sale live in fish markets. If you see any for sale, I would appreciate hearing about it. Ranch 99 seems to be the chain that sells them most often - usually for about $10 a pound.
