My return to the hobby! :)

I was going to keep quiet till the tank got here but I've already gotten some Pm's so I might as well announce.

My last tank was a 30" tall tank and I always fought with PAR and reach (my armpits hurt!). I've always loved shallow tanks and you just don't see them out there very often.

So I contracted My Reef Creations (MRC) in atlanta to build me a custom 26x26x16 cube in 1" acrylic. Its being built this week and I am picking it up at the airport next week. This will be an SPS dominant tank.

I've already ordered my RO/DI, an aqua medic 250w pendant, phoneix 14k bulb and some misc parts.

I've got to buy everything from scratch again since I sold absolutely every reef thing I owned; so this build is really taxing me but I'm looking forward to being back into the hobby.

I'll post a build thread once I get all my stuff in. I'm going with some really nice equipment and its going to take a few weeks just to get all this stuff in.

Holy cow. 1" acrylic? I built a 3'x3'x12" prop tank out of 1/4" with zero bowing.

That's gonna be a nice tank though.

A bit of overkill eh. :D

Forgot to mention that this is going to be a rimless/braceless tank. Both Envision acrylics and MRC agreed that the thicker the better.

One unforseen issue is that it appears I have to buy a $150 mag float. Ugh!

Here is a guy who used 1/2" on a 37g tank and was forced to euro brace it because it wasn't thick enough.

The rimless tanks really put alot of stress on the sides.

Hey Cham,

Glad it worked out for ya over at MRC :)

Please, if you don't mine, let me know how it all goes. Thanks in advance

Hope all is well,
James

I didnt know it was going to be rimless so yea 1" is a very good idea. Sounds like a very nice tank either way. And for the record, I eurobraced mine which is why I had no issues.

Hey James,
Thank you! I really appreciate the time you spent with me on the phone and the recommendation to MRC. I did tell Tim that you sent me!

I will post a build thread so you can see the final product.
