In my house she has my money and I have none! Kinda hard to hide $1500.00+ from the wife.

She did say that after I get the Charger paid off we could consider a bigger tank. I think the only major costs involved would be the tank and skimmer. Everything else could transfer over to the new tank. I might need 2 more VHO's

Billy, I wish it was that easy. After I posted that above, she asked me the benefit of getting the 300. (she did not see my post) I explained the extra 12 inches from front to back over my 180. She said "so the fish would have more room to swim?" I think she is seriously considering it. LOL

in a nut shell

A plenum is little more than a vacant space in the substrate, harboring anaerobic bacteria, which converts nitrates into nitrogen. In order for the anaerobic bacteria to function, the plenum must contain carbon dioxide and be devoid of oxygen.

So technically you can say it is an undergravel filter with out the up tubes. You also need to have the right layers and thickness of substarte for it to work properly.
