somebody has been working hard today.the actuator setup looks nice,im sure there is an easy way to fix the little bit of lean you are getting when the hood is lifted.Ted(reefrubble) does your hood have any issues leaning when lifted up?

Awesome! Is that a linear actuator on the backside of the canopy?

Thanks Robert, Yes it is a 18" stroke linear actuator.

Thats awsome.

So when is the water going in?

I will add the substrate tonight and start aquascaping tomorrow and along with water I hope.

ok I ran into some snags with the old rail system for the actuator. I had way too much forward lean. I called CMcNeil and asked if he could come over and give me any suggestions. After looking at it for a few minutes he said change out the rails and go with 8020 t slot framing so I did. I like to thank Chris and Bruce for there help today:cool: and this is what we have accomplished.

no problem Paul,it was a pleasure to help out.the slides and beams look really good in the pics.for those who dont know about 80-20 stuff,it is basicly an industrial erector set.they have all kinds of cool stuff including the UHWM slides that Paul got.the slides are ultra smooth and wear will be minimal at best.it makes lifting the hood easier and it is super strong so all of the lean Paul had issues with is now gone.i love the video seeing the rails move through the slides  and i will pat myself on the back as well lol,oh yeah cant forget Bruce either :D

Paul, I know you have the lean fixed now, but you could reduce the weight of the frame by using 2x3's instead of 2x4's. They will hold everything just as well.

Toolguy942, thank you for your input.

The 2x4 frame was just a temp canopy to test out the acuator. I will be using 1x4's and 1x3's when I build the permanent one.
