What a Nice lil'garden you have there.

that is a nice way of putting it...thank you:)

I am off all this week so I will be working on it. I think I am going to trim it in maple with a dark moca stain.

Just read your whole thread, and I just want to say, "Wow!" This is an inspiration to me. I just picked up a 240 gallon 8 foot tank and there seems to be so much work ahead...Thank you for the much needed motivation!!

Beautiful tank and livestock! Are your tangs ok?

Thank You ReefGirlSara:) I have learned alot with this build from follow hobbyist and friends. I am going to start the trim work on the canopy and stand this week so there will be more pictures of build to come.

The Tangs..... I lost one of the small ones to my carpet anemone. The other 2 came down with a bad case of ich and are now doing well in QT and the big is very healthy and in the display tank.

Hey Kubi - Pardon if this has been answered.. But can you fill me in on your plans for the water being plumbed through the walls? I want to do this, and having trouble finding additional info.

this is what I did I only had room for 2 1" pvc pipes.

I cut the wall open where I put my tank the width of the studs 16" w x 24" h. This gave me enough room to work on the pvc. I then went into the attic located the top plate of the wall where I wanted to drill. I drilled 2 1 3/4" holes with a hole saw then I took the saw zaw and open them up as much as possible so I had room for the pipe. Once this was done I just plumbed both pipes back to the garage where my water storage is. Ran the pipes on the outside of the interior wall in the garage to my water storage.

I brought both my pipes to a slight peak as you can see in picture #3 The water dains back into the water storage or sump so there is no standing water left in the pipes.

What equipment do you have on both sides to facilitate the water changes, etc?

When I do water changes the dart pumps water to my sewer drain just by opening and closing a few valves.I have a Pan world 100xp that pumps my make up and top off water back to the sump. It works quite well.

mflamb has a great deal on a Pan World 150ps. That is a high head pressure pump that will definitely get the job done for top off and make up water

yes, sorry and thanks! :)

Kubi, nice tank! If your tangs got ick, it often comes from the aquarium changing temp too quickly, such as when a cold front comes and the tank temp plummets.. Do you have a heater? This time of year the tank water can get cold. Stress is what gives ick to fish. Make sure your temp is OK, and if you dont have a heater or heaters, get them. Steve.

I just saw you had 4 tangs, that also could be a problem. The biggest will try and bully the others, and if they do, the others will get stressed. Now that you are down to 1, sorry to say, it may stop. Tangs can be a little sensitive, as I hear that they get ick before anything else. Possibly from stress. I havent had a problem with ick except twice in the same tank and same fish, which is still alive many years later, and it was from not turning my heater back on after water changes 2 times in a row, in the winter. I learned! That was gold striped maroon clown, and I think Brian Greene still has it. All I did was turn the heater back on, and it went away. Your corals look fantastic by the way!

Steve thanks for the input. The tank dips about a 1 degree difference between day and night. I currantly have 3 250w heaters in the tank.

Well than thats not it! Maybe it was the tangs pecking order disputes. I just realized you still have 3, but they are seperated. That will stop the fighting, but if you put them back together, they will stress out. Thats what tangs do. In the ocean they swim in big schools, but they have their space and can easily get away from another fish. Chromis and anthius also have this stressing problem, but it works out to have a large number of them to reduce stress on a few fish, they really(the male or bigger fish) cant stress out a few if theres a lot of fish-with them anyway. Keep the pics coming!

I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping that the tank was big enough so the stress issue would not be a factor. It is funny the 3 bigger tangs do not mess with anyone. It is the danm little ones causing trouble.

They all go back into the main tank next week. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thank you and more pics to come of the build!
