stopped by the LFS for some food and advice today and they just got in about a dozen gigas's

needless to say i will be posting pics of my new clam tomorrow :spin3: :spin1: :spin3:

Seems there has been a shortage of Gigas lately. Man I wish I could find a nice one to buy. A store I visited some distange away had 3 10" ones but were very unremarkable and way to big for me. I am looking for a 3". Lets see that puppy!!!

Is Gigas latin for holy crap? I bought my gigas in mid october of last year this is a picture of him day one and now it's four month's later and this thing is showing an inch of shell growth, he was the same size of the croceas now he may have to live at the steinhart aquarium soon.

sorry about the drama. i work snow removal for a nearby city and we got 3 - 4' dumped on us last week. i barely got him into the QT before they called me back out. i just got home now and have been doing some inspecting. i found this little guy on his shell and am waiting for an id ( posted in the newb forum ) he's in night mode now ( so i can give a good once over ) and is almost totally closed. if anyone knows what this little thing is i would greatly appreciate it.

looks harmless but thought it would be better to check. came on the side of clam. he react to light very quickly so i had to sneak up on him with the flash. the white part pulls into a small stalk, overall length about 1/2" and about 1/4" in diameter.

lol :D close, it is Latin but for 'giant' so yep close enough, holy crap that's a lot of growth i'm scared to see what happen under my 400w halides :eek1:

Looks like a vermatid snail to me. If you stir up the substrate around him and he lets out a mucus strand(thats how they eat), thats what he is. I would cut him off the shell. I had one growing on the side of my maxima and when I cut him off, there was a deep cavity in the shell from where the worm lived. Best bet is to cut that sucker off so he never burrows all the way through the shell:). Nice Gigas by the way!

a4twenty: that clam is awesome! i cant find a Gigas to save my life! The only ones ive found are online, and look nothing like that one...

anyone know where to find a nice gigas like that?

if 10" is too big for you, then any gigas is too big for you (even a small 3" one). they all look pretty much the same, any difference is usually from lighting.
