Haven't added any new fish in over 2 years. I plan on restocking this spring. If I had to do it over again I would have made the tank closer to the ground so it's easier to get into. There's not much room between the top of the tank and the ceiling. And I would have bought at least a 6in taller tank.

Red Monti all bounced right back after the 10day black out. So no corals or livestock were harmed after the blackout. I think this is the best and easiest way to defeat dinos.Well after a 10day black out this is where the tank is now. No signs of dinos yet fingers crossed. Fish all survived lost a little bit or red monti.

Yeah plenty of flow for the tank I keep the LPS in the low flow areas. It basically does a big Whirlpool around the entire tank. In a counterclockwise Direction around the overflows. It's pretty similar to the constant water movement I experience when I'm diving in Cozumel.

Thanks for the info. Why would you like a higher tank? I think the 18" is pretty cool. You think 24" high is better?

I just like having a little more water space above the reef. To me it just looks a little more natural with the fish swimming over it vs in front of it. If I did it over again I would do a 24-27" tall for sure. Even if the tank cost 1k more to me it is worth it.

With my 240 gallon I'm setting up now I went 30" tall x 30" deep x 54" wide. While it looks nice I can say I already regret it due to the difficulty reaching some areas. It forced me to re-think how I build the canopy and lay out the lighting for ease of access. It isn't fully operational yet and most of the reasons for delay are accessibility.
The height of the tank really does offer a lot of unique aquascaping potential has does the depth. The flip side is just limited arm length and access. Some of which I can correct with a step stool or painters ladder

I think you got a great excuse to tell your wife. You need a new SCUBA tank, regulator, and mask so you can put your whole head in the tank. Kidding of course. On that note I went back and re-read the thread from the start and just caught the fins under the counter of the bar. You dive? Getting ready to hit Monterey here at the end of the month. Probably just shore dives unless my brother in law wants to catch one of the charters. Water is cold but that first early morning boat dive is tough.Edit 1: Forgot to say - nice job, I enjoyed the read and build thread.
Edit 2: I see you went DIY LED's - nice touch. I was originally going that route with 48" wide heat sinks and arranging Cree and Luxeons across. I felt it would give better coverage but in the end up going with a single chip multi channel array. We'll see how they perform.

That they do. Just sent in my dive watch / serviced before I head out. Cozumel - warm water. Rarity for me since Northern California waters are cold
I enjoyed my dives in Cozumel though especially the couple drift dives I did there.If you take any video of your dives and don't mind sharing - post. Always nice to see. Be safe and have fun!
