Jacob's 360 Gallon Build

Jake,

Do you have enough room to fit everything in with the door openings? I know I had problems with my stand and not forward thinking enough to get all the items I wanted in there. I'm sure you've already figured this out.

Looking awesome!

No I don't!... but I solved that problem by putting my sump in from one end before the skin is screwed on. Even with just the bare frame I couldn't get the sump in, so I was confronted with that fact in advance :)

Everything else will fit.

Jacob...how's this progressing? I know you were working on your ducting this weekend. Have any updates or do we have to wait until Dec 20 :)

So I didn't make as much progress as I hoped to. Between work, the kids, and being sick (still sick) this is what I managed to get accomplished this month...

- Completed polishing tank (inside, outside needs a little spot polish)
- Completed sump
- Completed stand construction ~ 90%
- Completed stand paint prep
- Completed plumbing of tank and sump inside of house
- Completed air exchange ducting inside of house ~ 90%

I just finished polishing the outside of the tank. I hand polished most of it with 4000 and 6000. In a few spots I went down to 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000. Then I buffed the entire thing with Microgloss and buffing wheel with light pressure. It just keeps looking better and better! I really can't wait to start filling it now!!

Very incredible setup Jake, I loved checking it out. I can't wait to see the progress coming along. If you need an extra hand/body to help out some day, just let me know!

Thanks guys, the words of encouragement are appreciated. I am now polishing the blue back panel.... :( I'm not going all out like I did on the viewing panels but it's still work. It has a lot of scuffs on it, I'm guessing from LR being against it, which I don't plan to do. I'm taking out most of the scuffs and leaving the deep scratches which are fewer. I figure once I put water in it'll be too late to climb in there and do any more work so just get er done now!

Brian, I probably will need a hand soon. After the holidays I need to go under the house and finish the air exchange and some plumbing down there. It helps to have a person topside to cut pipe and hand them down, etc... If you're offering I may take you up on it.

Jake - I'll definitely be there for the grand 'Christening' of that beast with snorkel in hand. Have you named her yet?

Looks great.

PS I see you have two 90 elboes on your return pump with full union. U worried about micro bubbles? Could you plumb straight off the end of your sump?

Scott

Thanks Reefgeek, I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks Scott. No name yet other than "big PITA" :)

The way the return pump is plumbed is about the only way I could do it. I'm not too worried about cavitation/micro bubbles, this is exactly how my last system was plumbed and I never had any issues.

If I can get the back panel polishing done today I'm going to start filling with water tonight. Next I need to locate some of that base rock that Jesus, Stefan, and you(?) used. If you have any ideas let me know.

Merry Christmas.

p.s. where is the update on your cube? need pics!

Hey Jake, I may be free on Sunday if you need a hand or if you want to push back to after the 1st let me know. Just give me as much heads up as possible so I can warn the little lady ;)

Thanks Brian. I'm thinking sometime after the 1st. I appreciate the offer and will let you know in advance.

Here is the last picture of the tank taken without water. I think everyone with a big tank has one of these :)

I put 20g of water into the tank this morning and plan to put another 20 in pretty soon... a little at a time...

That picture is awesome! You have adorable kids my friend.

I tried putting the 11yo in my 75g, but he wasn't having it ;)

Thanks bro. I'm not sure if a 75g is big enough for an 11 year old, better be careful the tang police are bad enough ;)

Posted a blog update finally for anyone who might be interested.

Now there is proof that I actually have water in the tank :D

WOW!.. just read your whole thread.. cant wait to see this best up and running!... BTW that plumbing is just SWEET DUDE SWEET!...
