Jacob's 360 Gallon Build

Good call on that bass, I'll see if he'll part it out.

That tank up in Oregon sounds interesting, I PM'd them about it.

Here's an update on the tank up in Oregon...

It's a 340g acrylic made by Envision (80x33x30). The current owner sent me many pictures and we talked for awhile on the phone. She was very nice and took time to tell me about all of the important details. In fact, I even got some pics and background about her reef setup before it was taken down, and it was an amazing reef. Everything has been well taken care of

so I bought it.

I'm headed up to Oregon on the 26th to pick it up and will have it home on the 27th. The stand and canopy were included, and are both very nice and display quality. I'm pretty excited about the upgrade, but it'll be awhile before it's up and running (hopefully this year).

wow thats going to be amazing.
what else was included in the sale, any lights etc?

keep us posted on your build.

have fun in tigard, i used to live right next to there.

Congrats! Portland (I think Tigard is close) is a fun city if you have time to make it into a little vacation.

I look forward to seeing the results.

You got ROBBED.

Do you have a group of people that will ride up with you? When you go, I highly recommend that you make time to swing by Soutas Saltwater and Upscales.

PS, that peacock bass tank is a good deal considering it has a Fly River turtle. Those are the only freshwater turtle with flippers instead of claws. The last time I saw them for sale at Capitol Aquarium, they were asking $900 for a baby.

:eek1: I didn't realize that Soutas is still in business! That is by far the coolest frag shop I've EVER been into. And Upscales is great too.

ahem.

(I grew up in portland, and have been to just about every shop that does salt water up there, these two are the best out in the area.)

seaskrap:
I purchased just the tank, stand, and canopy. There are some misc plumbing parts, and a pulley system to raise and lower the canopy included. We negotiated a very fair price.

gklompen:
I'm very much looking forward to getting the tank, but not so much the driving. Due to obligations at home, and the amount of work it's going to take, it's only going to be a 2 day trip up and back. We will probably detour to Upscales at some point though :D

lanxang:
Thanks  Definitely excited about staring the new project, hopefully it will be up and running later this year. A lot depends on the automation that I want to implement and construction progress around the house.

tacocat:
Sure I did ;) We'll hit at least one of the shops up there, maybe both if time allows.

I had 2 people coming with, one could not make it though, so now I need one more. I have a non-reefing friend that said "I'll be your backup plan... just in case" so hopefully I can find another reefer who can help. Got any plans? I know how you like road trips! :D

mokei:
BIG THANKS for agreeing to help with the move, also to your folks for putting us up at their place Saturday night! It's good to have at least one reefing buddy along who understands why I must do this.

Status of "The Trip":
It's going down Memorial Day weekend. We are leaving early (TBA) the morning of the May 26th, staying at Monkei's Follk's place nearby the pickup location. Pick up a trailer and the tank the morning of the 27th, make one or two stops at the saltwater shops in the area, then head home. We'll be back probably 10:00 - 11:00 PM on the night of the 27th.

I need a couple helpers still if anyone can spare their time.

- 1 person to join Thayer and myself on the trip (there will be additional help to load the tank/stand when we pick it up). I am paying all of your expenses for the trip.

- 2 or 3 people to help us unload the tank/stand back in Stockton.

If anyone can help please call, email, or PM me.

You know what Mr. Monthra, I'm kind of on the fence. It would be cool to help you out and see the Oregon shops. I do have quite a bit of heavy tank moving equipment. The only things holding me back is that I have plans for every other weekend this month, oh yeah, and money. :(

Nathan / Lak:
Thanks for your offers to help on the Stockton side. Please keep me posted. I think if we can get one or two more local helpers it will be a piece of cake (I'm guessing the stand will be a lot heavier than the acrylic tank).

Hector:
No prob bud, that's a really long trip for ya, and if you have plans it's all good. Money wise though, it won't cost you anything (unless you go nuts and buy a lot of frags).

WHAT? Did you think I was going to chip in for gas? pffft.

Heck yeah I'd stock up on frags. There is some added coolness to saying you bought the frag in Oregon.

Oh yeah, I'd recommend you get a U-haul truck or a U-haul trailer. It may be cheaper to do a one way trailer rental from Portland to Stockton. I did a one way trailer rental from Fresno to Fragfarmer's old shop, and it only cost $38, but going from LA to Fresno was much more expensive.

Already got that covered. $45 one way for an enclosed trailer. The stand and canopy can ride in the back of my truck.

hey
i can help on this end. you gonna be setting it up or just putting in the garage.
hmmmm
what you gonna do with the old tank?
paul

Thanks Paul!

I'm setting it on some 2x4's on the side of my house for now. Unfortunately it's going to have to stay outside for a while until I can get the project moved along far enough to bring it inside. I'm planning to keep my old tank up and running until this one has cycled (at least hoping to) so I can transfer over my fish and a few corals, after that I'll be selling it, and have a potential buyer lined up already.

Hi Jacob,
If you think of it, give me a call the week before you come up - I might be able to give you a hand loading the thing up. I'd kinda like to see the tank as well, just to see how it has fared. I live in Tigard so wouldn't be inconvenient.
Upscales will be on your way in and out of Tigard, their located in Tualatin, right off I-5. A shop called Waves is in Tigard and there are a coupla shops in Salem if'n you're up for pit stops. Soutas' is further up in Portland but not far at all, relatively speaking.
I can bring some 4 x8' and/or 5 x 8' sheets of cardboard and maybe some foam to smooth the ride. I've got a dolly or 10 laying that we can use to make moving it easier as well. All you'd need to bring is some moving blankets and straps to hold the stuff in place.

Hope you're doing well,
James
