Jadette's 140g Rimless Build Thread

Kenith - My setup is looking more and more like yours now! :)

Enjoy - Thanks! I've been following your build thread for awhile now too.

qwuintus - Most of the corals on the left I acquired as 1-2" frags about 2.5 years ago (the pink milli in the front I recently acquired as a colony). My current 75g has been up and running for about a year and half. Most of the corals were from my 40g cube that I had running for about a year before upgrading to the 75g.

solitude127 - the sump is 40"x26"x16". I had it custom built with baffles to fit my Warner Marine AS200 skimmer. I wish I had spec'd it for 22" or 24" deep to give me more space to work with under the stand. Hopefully will know soon if I can make this sump work under the stand without much heartache!

That's a nice looking stand. The neighborhood in the background looks like mine, but I'm sure KB built a few blocks around the area.

Thanks for posting the latest pics on the stand build Mike. It's looking great! Can't wait to see it with the doors on!

My Reef and mykim72 - You won't regret having Mike build you a stand. He's a great guy to deal with.

Wow Mike. The stand came out better than I expected!

If an Elos stand and an ADA stand had children, this is what their kids would look like. Okay... Okay... That was beyond cheesy and lame but I just had a glass of sangria. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

In other news, my PCBs for my controller came in earlier this week.

Aren't they just too cute? Don't they make you just want to pick up a soldering iron and solder away? I have plenty of spares. I'm keeping one for a keychain!

So I've been thinking a lot about stocking options with this 140g. Going to stick with primarily SPS corals. I'm partial to the fuzzy wuzzy type. So lots of millis and acropora plana. Here's a photo of the pink milli colony that I picked up from a fellow RC reefer about a month ago:

I've been told that this particular milli will have blue polyps once it bounces back to its prime. I'm already seeing some faint baby blue coloration on it so I'll keep my fingers crossed for more coloration in the future!

man that's a nice stand can't wait to see it complete and running. thinking about doing a diy led but not sure if I want to solder that much

Kain - Nope. Under MH/T5 combo.

jvo87 - Totally know what you mean. I'm getting lazy already. I have to admit, this build has been a bit more stressful than I was anticipating and I haven't even really started yet!

Good news to report! Got my stand today (Thanks Mike! Great to finally meet you!)

A couple of pics of the tank on the stand:

Going to work on the fuge/frag/sump LED light and installing the in-stand fans next.

school of Anthias in topless?

school of Anthias in topless?

jadette,
We have very similar tastes. I am in the stocking stage with my 200 gal. Elos, and I also wanted a school of Anthias. I decided on Bartlett's, but recent research makes me afraid of jumping issues. I'd appreciate your thoughts and knowledge on this. I'm hoping for good news, because I really want that school of Anthias, but I don't want to see them on the floor in the morning. Thanks.

Thanks for all the compliments.

Mr. Reef - Unless I decide on stocking more wrasses, I plan on keeping my tank uncovered. I've kept anthias in my tanks since 2006, and the only time I had them jump was when my male lyretail died and the females were battling for dominance. That was a crazy week of lots of chasing in the tank before the pecking order was established and things calmed down. I'm sure if I had a larger tank, the problem wouldn't be so bad.

Bartletts are a great choice since they're hardy like lyretails but tend not to be as aggressive.

I'm going to try and find schools of Ignitus Anthias:

or
Carberryi Anthias.

I see them on sale at liveaquaria from time to time, so I wouldn't mind buying from them and having the 14 day stay alive guarantee to boot.

here are a few of my setup-

Hi Kenith, I was wondering if there is a splash guard on your fixture? Also are you using lenses? Thank! Sorry to hijack the thread Shirley. Your tank is awesome. Some day I hope to have something like that.
