Hello members of reef central. My name is Jano and I have been reefing for 2 and a half years. Recently we bought a new townhouse and with it I bought 125 gallon tank to but into the basement. After about a year, I became lazy and really stopped maintaining it. With it being in the basement, no one was there to enjoy it and I had a hard time maintaining such a large water volume efficiently.

Fast forward to today. I sold all my livestock and equipment and told myself this Time im going to go smaller, custom, as professional as my 2.5 years experience allows me to be, silent and somewhere that allows the tank to be viewed and enjoyed by all.

So I want 1. a custom made tank
2. a self made tall stand
3 the best and most energy efficient equipment
4 NO NUISENCE ALGAE lol

Before I tore down my 125 I wanted to use it as a holding tank for some livestock I wanted to buy and to keep my live rock alive. So I found a pair of black ice clowns and a nice RBTA who are now at home in there Temp. housing.

Well lets get started I ordered a custom 34g starfire cube nano 22x22x16 rimless eurobraced, with overflow. The tank is drilled with 3, one inch holes for a beananimal overflow system.

Here she is

Ok got the tank now need a stand. With me standing 6'4 I wanted to build a stand that was eye level to someone of average height. I used the reefcentral thread to get my base made. The stand will be a total of 42" tall.

Here it is framed up

Now to put a top and bottom on and drill out a hole for the plumbing

Next I needed to fit a sump in the small area I have. The only thing that would fit was the standard ten gallon, which means either a refugium or a skimmer. I chose skimmer. Here it is with my built baffles.

Looks like an awesome project! And I am really jealous of those clown, I am going to find on ORA one one of these days...

heres my equipment list which i have recieved ahead of this project

1 ai sol blue LED
1 vortech mp10
1 tunze quiteone return pump
1 SWC 120 extreme skimmer

the funny thing is the clowns were only 65 bucks a piece and the anemone way 30 and it only took a weekend for the anenome to host the clowns

You know what would be cool? If you put another shelf and another ten gallon tank in the stand. Have the water flow to the first, then to the second then back up to the display! Just a thought :)

Next I needed to stain and polyurethane the stand and add some trim I chose the color jicoba, which is nice and dark to my liking. I used 1.5” finishing nails and wood glue to attach everything. Finally its in the house and looks like and aquarium should.

That would a good idea but want to keep it as simple as possible

I love the tank, but I'm not feeling the stand. The shape is great, but maybe a skin would set it off. The wood just does t have a nice marble to it. Jmo, it looks great so far though.

Ok now its time to kick some plumbing A@@. I used 1inch pipe. And added a gate
Valve to the sump return in order to adjust for the return pump.
