January Frag Swap!

no deaths yet. Some have recovered and many are about the same, partially open and looking so-so.

There has been no more losses in the tank either. I seem to have pulled out all teh ones that were dying.

Today is agood day for my tank. The orange digi that scott fragged for me is growing fast and the colors look awesome. The tiny frag of pokerstar I got at the auction had been bleaching for a long time, but when I looked today the areas that had previously been bleached are coloring up again and there is even new growth. I had been very worried because Scott came over and we glued down all the frags that I had recently accumulated. Some of the pieces didn't look very good after this and seemed pretty stressed. So it is a great relief to have them start to take a turn for the better and show new growth and better color.

good to here that poker star is doing good, I have the parent under 250W 14K DE and the colors are unbelievable, I think I like it better then the superman. Still trying to get some Sunset and Rainbow by the next swap.

Scott, How are the Zoo's doing, all cleared up? LMK, got those Blues when your sure the tanks setteled back in.

Just because frags are swapped from one domestic tank to another, does not negate the need for a quarantine tank. I haven't read anywhere that you guys are QT your specimens from other people's tanks for 3-4 weeks then adding it to your system. I think it only makes sense that if you don't want other people's; strains of resistant algea, flat worms, reb bugs, etc, it would make sense to QT everything you get for a while!

What could happen, especially at these local frag swaps, is that everyone's tank could be infected with the same harmful organism and wipe out everyone's tank in the area. That wouldn't be too much fun.

I would strongly suggest everyone set up QT tanks and then participate every other month in a swap rather than monthly. Because the desire to get your new aquisition into the display would force you to either put a new specimen into the QT tank, or move an old QT specimen into the display too soon to make room for the new aquisition.

Anyway, sorry for the losses, but that's my .02

Oh yeah, and none of this may be any of my business since I have never participated at a frag swap. It does sound fun, I just don't have anything to frag or swap :)

I hope so, the last couple swaps have been very Zoanthid dominated. It would be nice to have some nice SPS.

Depending on the date, I plan on fragging all the SPS that is in my display. Will try and get to it this weekend, so they might encrust by the swap.

Yeah my tank is well set on zoa's and other softies but SPS and LPS would be a lot of fun to add, my one Hydnophora has gotten me more interested in those types of coral.

We haven't set a date yet, but we need to do it quick since it's going to be at my house. I will have to take the day off so I need to let work know asap.

Jan 20 and 21 is best for me. I am not sure I can attend the other weekends, due to work and vacations.

I have some corals to bring.
