Gary I do not agree. Both skimmers perform well. Each skimmer has advantages and disadvantages.
I have not yet done full testing and measuring of skimmate. But, I can tell you that there are subtle differences in design.
Two major differences:
One is neck diameter. The Deltec uses a 3.5" neck and the ER uses a 4.5" neck.
Two, both skimmers have the same pump. Deltec trims the pins off the impeller because the neck diameter is too small and air volume is too great for the neck size. So they modify the impeller for this reason. ER does not have to do this.
I think the reason most people say the Deltec outperforms the ER is because of skimmate output. It is difficult to tune the Deltec to produce a dry skimmate because of the neck diameter. The bubbles in the neck are also a blend of coarse and fine bubbles, whereas teh ER has all fine bubbles.
After weeks of playing to run the ER wetter, I had to lift the water column way up into the neck. The volume output between the two were then matched.
Just with casual observations I think the two perform extremely well and do the job they are intended to do. The ER offers more flexibility with fine tuning and uses better materials. The Deltec is a turn-key skimmer that is perfect to use for wetter skimmate right out of the box. While materials are of lesser quality, I find that it is lighter and easier to handle. The skimmer cup fits better and is easier to remove and all the parts are glued to the body. Therefore, it has better build craftsmanship.
Both skimmers are excellent and perform well. I would recommend the Deltec for those who want somthing to perform with no mods nad no maintenance. You must be happy with a wet foam.
I recommend the ER for those who like to tweak, since you need to do a few mods to get this skimmer to perform optimally. However, you have more choices with running wet or dry, more throughput or less. You can also save some money with the ER.
