Jaubert Plenum

I used it back in the early 90s on a 90gal reef tank worked good but you do need a large area for it to be successful

I used a plenum setup in the nineties. It is an effective biological filter. It will compete with your chaeto for nitrogen. So it may not be ideal for growing macros. I suggest choosing one method, not both.

I started a 20 gallon Observation and a 120 Display a couple of years ago. I have used it before with good results and I used it on both of these. I am a firm believer in the process. I had the usual issues of GHA, Bubble Algae and Cyno. I just keep up the water changes and used a turkey baster to clean the rocks and kept my filters clean. After a few months it all disappeared. I still have a small amount of GHA in hard to get places, but I only clean the tank once every couple of weeks. You just have to be patient with starting up a reef tank. I forget where I heard the quote but "Only bad things happen fast in a reef tank".

Thanks for the responses, guys. Since the fuge is only about 15 gallons and I did a shallow sand bed in the display I'm going to go bare bottom in the sump and grow cheato.
