jawfish and goby

While I have never had that combo, the goby might become a snack for the jawfish. I have seen a few pics in the past of that happening with small gobies and firefish. I have a BSJ with a yellow watchman and they are fine, but I don't know if I would trust the dusky.

well the dusky and ywg are of the same size at the store at the moment. so I don't think one will be eating the other, but they shouldn't fight over territory for the most part? I have a pistol shrimp im hoping the ywg will pair with.

My experience, I have had this combo in a 75 gallon with absolutely no problems. Dusky Jawfish are pretty cryptic and stay tight to their holes, even closing the top at night. YWG generally will find a overhang, or comfort area and tend to stick to that location. With all likelyhood they will rarely be face to face, assuming they are of similar sizes and stay that way, I would not be worried at all about predation.

Read your follow up note, may have some issue with your pistol shrimp and jawfish if they come face to face. Jawfish have been known to eat shrimp. Personally I have had many with shrimp with no problems, but it could be a possible snack for the right Jawfish.

thanks for all the input sigmund! the pistol shrimp i have came in through live rock so if he does become a snack no big loss although i don't wish death on anything. the pistol shrimp survived two years of a porcupine puffer in the puffer so i think he can hold his own...lol I think I will put these two fish on hold at the store today!

I had to put my daughter's YWG in with my BSJF in a 125. They were fine together until they decided they wanted the same den. There must have been a fight at some point because the YWG's jaw was broken. He survived, but it was a stressful living environment for both of them.

well someone bought the last ywg yesterday so today when i went in, things changed up a little bit. They had just had new fish from last night so I picked out a pearly/yellowhead jawfish and an orange spot shrimp goby. I made sure they both ate before getting them. They are now in the tank with the lights off so we shall see.
