JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

It's 18" wide and about 21" tall (with the hood) and long, but the length and height are a little hard to tell cause the glass bows in the front.

Not sure about the skimmer. I'm sure someone else can help you on that.

My other JBJ 28 gallon has two clowns, a blenny, and mandarin and I only do WC's on that one too. So I guess even with a heavy bio-load, you can get away with just frequent WC's.

I don't remember if I've posted in this thread yet, but here is my JBJ 28 gallon LED nano. It's skimmerless. Just do WC's. I put a hydor reflector on the right side and both pumps are constant.

how do you run both pumps and not overfill your tank? i have two maxi's on my tank and they bring the water level up from about 3/8" down with one running, to even with the rim with both running. i figure it's flowing too much to get back into the filter area

My tank came in a few days ago, pretty excited about it. Got everything set up and cycling. Noticing a few hitchhikers here and there, one of which appears to be aiptasia. There's also a little guy living in a tube that will spread out and then retract really quick if disturbed, it's bright red/pinkish in color and very tiny.

Need to take care of the aiptasia before it becomes a problem, though. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with my purchase so far.

Telekinesis, how much LR did you get and were did you get it? Also i have notice if i run both pumps full the water level in the pump chambers drop real low and i get bubbles out of the one side. Also i too notice that the water runs thru and over the basket too.

Yeah, I posted a question about your pumps in your thread. That's my only real complaint so far. I can't run both of them because the bubbles get way out of control. It's not too bad when split with the wavemaker, though.

I bought my LR from the LFS. It's about a twenty minute drive from home: http://www.saltwaterwarehouse.com/Gerbers_Saltwater_Warehouse/Home.html

I've only grabbed a couple pieces that I liked so far. Bought the tank for myself for Christmas, plus the stand/salt/water/rock/sand. So yeah, I'll be picking up the rest of my rock this week. They have a bunch of different LR to choose from and some really nice pieces.

:sad1:

I just use the pumps that came with the tank. Maybe the maxi's are too powerful?

Also about the bubble thing, do you have the side sponges in place? Any time I notice bubbles, it's because one or both of the side sponges fell down a little.

i don't use either of the sponges, but my system had been modified by the prior user to fit maxijets into, or rather, onto the baffles. they had gotten cracked/cut down so they would fit one pump for the chiller, the other for a skimmer that i can't figure out how to put into the "cradle". so my water level going through the baffles is a little lower than normal

The problem I was having with the bubbles was definitely caused by a low water-level. The lower it dropped, the worse the bubbles would get. Anyone with a new tank still having the problem might want to try topping off the main tank and/or filling up the back chambers with water.

Off topic: Found 3 aiptasia total yesterday while I was handing out lethal injections. No sign of any of them yet. Crossing fingers.

JBJ stand

JBJ stand

Yikes! I just purchased a 28g LED with the free stand. Makes you wonder if we need to put something between the tank and stand. That pic is horrendous!

Having said that, does anyone have a solution to what would be a good material--short of replacing the stand of course :spin2:

Looks nice!

And OMG! I hope my stand doesn't end up looking like that! If I had known, I would have covered the top in a clear coat that's water proof. I did that on my old 150 stand and it did great. Sucks that they don't make the stands out of better materials.

i bought the tank and stand used about 4 months ago, the stand wasn't in this shape at all. it was a little beat, but no biggie. what happened though still confuses me...the water leaked out the front, and followed the rim to the back of the tank, leaking down the line where the plastic meets the glass. after a while though, i noticed the water level was OVER the rim in the front and then the water was sorta sloshing down the front. when i saw that i said hmm, looked under, and the tank was about 11 degrees hanging downwards. my tank is now on a kitchen cabinet/counter top...since the laminate is water proof. i'm just glad i found it before it fell on the ground.

Topped my water off today and filled the back up, no more bubbles. Crystal clear with both pumps running. I also added a Koralia Nano to the tank, I love it. Just enough flow, not too much. Blasted the aiptasia problem I had... so far, so good. Really enjoying this tank so far. Got a baby featherduster for a hitchhiker, it's bright red/kind of pink. Pretty neat, not sure if he'll stick around.

I also have what appears to be a tiny clam on top of the rock. I'm completely unsure about this, but that's what it looks like. Too small right now to get a good picture.

blasted an aiptasia problem? that isn't going to be good...they don't die from more water flow, just find somewhere else to reproduce.

Sorry, I didn't mean I used the new pump to blast them. I handed out lethal injections. At least, I hope they were lethal. It has been two days and still no sign of them, so we'll see. My tank is cycling, so if they pop back up on the piece of LR I'll remove it and take care of them.

hoho yes, melting of aiptasia is fun :) i liquified some dow flake and blasted a few i had with super concentrated calcium. didn't see them again
