PietchBR, I think I know what you are saying. The JBJ ATO float needs to be in one of the outside chambers, where your return pumps are. Both pumps may not be evenly matched so what you need to do is determine where your water level is when the pump that is the strongest is on, the lowest level. That is where you need to have your ATO float at. When the weaker pump comes on, the water level will rise and will not have any adverse effect on your ATO. Even though I upgraded to the MJ1200's, I had one that was slightly stronger than the other.

Lol I'm terribly sorry for not making myself clear. But that's not it.
I'm gonna try again.
I'm using the stock pumps with the stock wavemaker. I have two options:
1. Use both pumps at the same time.
2. Alternate between pumps using the wavemaker.

Right now I'm using option 2.
The thing is that when one pump is active its chamber gets with lower water level. On the other hand the chamber with the inactive pump the water has higher water level.

I have two questions.

1. Will the ATO work well because of these differences?
2. Since I'm using the vortech to create waves can I just put the two pumps to work at all times without using the wavemaker?

I just remembered that I had to post the pic of my DIY fuge. Which I'm placing at the stock skimmer chamber.
Its been working for a couple of months now and I'm having good results. Macroalgae is growing just fine.
The first two chambers has macro and the last has hydocarbon.

more information please :)

OK Tunze 9002 owners. i took your advice, and now have this temperamental thing to deal with.

1) how far down in the center chamber do you guys have it?
2) if not all the way on the bottom, how do you keep it from sliding down?
3)any idea where to get the air valve on the modification youtube video?

Ok.
Since i have the tunze 9002 at my center chamber and i wanted a fuge i created this.
What I did was adjust the stock basket to fit the left aux chamber, where the stock skimmer was supposed to be.
I've used those commons saws to cut the basket at the right size. Of course I had to measure but it was not that hard, still precision is required. After I had all the pieces resized I just glued it and voila. I'm using the nano-glo LEDs from jbj on reverse cycle to light it.
I'm not sure if the flow is enough at the aux chamber but so far I'm getting great growth of cheato and my phosphates are at a much lower value. I was having 0.1 and now reduced to between 0.03 and 0. Not using GFO.

Hey there renogaw, I'll try to address each of your questions.

1) There should be a water line mark on the 9002 just a centimeter or or so from the top of the body of the skimmer. So the rectangular body sticks out of the water just that much, about the thickness of a pinky finger maybe.

2) My 9002 is a fairly snug fit in the center chamber. The power cord and the external air line from the YouTube mod both run up the right side of my skimmer between it and the wall of the chamber as you look at the skimmer from the front of the tank. They seem to snug up the fit even more. They don't get pinched but it's just slightly snug and just enough to keep the skimmer in place with no problems.

3) You should be able to get the air valve from any LFS or online. They would be near the air line and other air valves at your LFS. You can typically get an assortment of air line fittings of various types (Ts, valves, connecters, etc...) for a few bucks.

I hope that's the info you're looking for. If you have any more questions just ask and I'll try to clarify.
Good luck.

PietschBR, sorry about not understanding your problem. In my tank the outside chambers are always equal in regards to the water line. It may be higher or lower depending on which pump is running but they adjust to the same level. My only difference is that I don't have anything in the skimmer chamber and just a heater in the other. Maybe it has to do with the flow coming thru your diy fuge.

Am on the way with my 28 gal jbj nano reef LED which is in its 12th week.

I have an unused tunze 9002 with an adapted media basket from mediabaskets.com; however I decided to use the modified media basket holder which Urbaneks designed and built. Search nano-reef.com/forums for the details on this DYI, it is awesome. I use floss in the upper chamber, Phosban in the middle compartment and Chemi-Pure elite in the bottom chamber.

Just installed my vortech mp10 but it does not allow head flow adjustment so I don't know where to place it in my jbj 28 gal LED tank for best flow for my soft corals which need medium flow but may not be in the same stream line as the one flow head.

I put mine in the middle of one side about 3" down from top. Gets good adequate flow all around the tank for me. Hope this helps. Have you got any fish yet Michelle? Are you apart of the ARC or MAAST?

Yup, i have this, but i wasnt sure how far people have the unit down in the first chamber--all the way down, up near the top of the tank inlet, etc. It's a little difficult to figure out how far down the water line is with the baffle in the way heh. sorta leads into my second question i guess

I was having trouble adjusting the height with the cord inbetween the skimmer and the baffle, so i moved it out which makes it very loose. i wasn't sure if people made a platform or something, or pushed the skimmer all the way down onto the chamber bottom. every time i put the skimmer cup back in, the skimmer slides down since it is so loose. I'll put the cord back in.

i'll look, didn't really see anything in a few stores but not surprised. gonna look at the hardware stores too.

so basically, i need to just put the cord back between the unit and the baffles? seems a lot easier than trying to devise a platform for it to sit on...

I'm a member of ARC (mrstecker). What is MAAST?
I'll try moving the power head around. Thanks

Ditto with markgsa. both return pumps stay on and the vortech is set in reef crest or lagoon mode at 50% +/- 10%. that may be a bit much for softies but it does break up the linear flow from the returns.
